It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.Truer words have never been spoken. It is, in fact, hard out here for a Pimp. Trust me when I tell you, though, it’s harder out here for the prostitute. For some women, in this State, the State of Rhode Island, and in every other state in America, prostitution may seem like the only viable option of survival. I knew this Girl. Barely 19 years old. Her one year old waited for Daddy to get out of Jail, and watched as his mother got caught up in the world of prostitution, pimps and drugs. She was beautiful, smart, but worn down from years of drug use and abuse at the hands of said baby daddy. She had spunk, and she was broken in so many ways.
She was pimped out by a now- leading anti drug and recovery advocate, right in good old West Warwick. The Madam took 60 percent to start, and rented out her basement room at 900 dollars a month to the prostitute. The ceilings weren't even high enough to stand up straight in, and the sink was never, not once, unclogged the whole 3 months she lived there.
She did her make up every morning, as the Madam had strict rules. The Girls were up and working by 9 A.M. She helped the girl post pictures online, and guided her on the phone when the Johns called. She was told you never give out your address, only directions to the house. The three story house was set up in a way that optimized the space to actually commit the act of prostitution. A 50 year old prostitute, who had seen better days, occupied the first floor. The girl paid her 20 dollars a John to rent out her room. The old, seasoned Prostitute offered the young, green prostitute tips and tricks, on how to not sound so fake while having sex, even if the guy was old, and you were only doing a 50 dollar blowjob. They both knew, the 50 dollar blowjobs were the worst. Usually the new girl would be asked to perform these acts for friends, old customers or preferred customers of the Madam. Not quite forced, but leaned on enough, pressured enough to do it. The whole profits of these blowjob, was for the girl to keep, the whole 50 bucks was hers. The older, more seasoned prostitute offered the girl her shower, her used douches, baby wipes and mouth wash, but never expensive condoms. Those you had to buy yourself. It was never legal to run a brothel, even when it was legal to prostitute yourself in your own home in Rhode Island, a loophole that was in effect from 1980-2009. But for that One Brothel in West Warwick, the one where The Girl worked and was pimped out, there had to be dozens more. Thousands of women are sex workers in this country, and millions more worldwide. Some have a choice, some are sold into sex slavery, and some never ever get out. For the girl in West Warwick, she got out. Years of therapy, the discovery of unconditional love, and the coping tools allowed her to be a mother to her child, and a wife. She works as a bartender, and her life is quiet and simple, now. All she can do is let go of the memories and live her life. If you need help, visit HIPS.
