Open auditions for the University of Rhode Island Theatre Department will be held for two award-winning plays, “Seminar” and “Avenue Q.” Auditions will be held Sept. 2 and 3 and are open to the public. Sign up by calling 401-874-5921. URI junior and senior acting students are required to audition Sept. 2. The URI Theatre Department is located on the second floor of the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston. Auditions for “Seminar” will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. in J Studio; auditions for “Avenue Q” will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. in G Studio. Rehearsals for “Seminar” are Tuesdays through Fridays from 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. with some Sunday evenings. Rehearsals for “Avenue Q” will begin in October, and times will be announced. “Seminar” by Theresa Rebeck is an edgy, comedic contemporary play involving four post-graduate aspiring writers who hire an international literary figure to critique their work. They get much more than they bargained for as his powerful persona disrupts their well-being in unexpected ways. URI Theatre will perform the play starting Oct. 9. The contemporary musical “Avenue Q” follows a group of 20-somethings seeking their purpose in big-city life, filled with puppets and R-rated lyrics. Performances begin Nov. 13.
