They are everywhere. Over the last few years, Hookah bars have seemed to pop up on every corner in every metropolis. For example, in Providence there are more than a half-dozen, plus another dozen everyday bars offering hookahs. Not bad for a city with only three Starbucks! If you went just anywhere and puffed on a hookah you may not understand the appeal. Well, chances are you found yourself at the weekend hot spot partaking in what you assume to be authentic hookah. It was not until recently, when visiting Zenobia on Meeting Street in Providence that I learned the truth about Hookahs. The setting at Zenobia is low key, relaxed. Everything you need and nothing you don't. That is the motif of this fine establishment. Priding themselves on their reputation as a true Middle Eastern fashion Hookah bar. Focusing on what the Hookah experience is all about Zenobia does not any corners. First Zenobia offers hand crafted Syrian Hookahs. The right apparatus is important in order to taste the full flavor of the tobacco. Most so called Hookah establishments use small, generic hookahs to save a buck. On to tobacco... Zenobia is one of the few establishments around that uses premium tobacco. Again, most imitators use low-grade, cheap tobacco. This cut corner can cause the smoker to experience headaches. It also detracts from the taste and does not burn nearly as long. When it comes to flavor, Zenobia leads the pack. After all, it is all about the flavor. Offering over 50 flavors, it is no wonder Zenobia often receive five stars reviews. Mix and match or try one of their famous tastes such as "fuzzy wuzzy" or "blue mist". Zenobia does not serve alcohol. Traditional Hookah bars are a place to socialize. Meet, greet and be merry. In fact, in the Middle East, Hookah bars are quite similar to our American coffee houses. Zenobia does offer a fine menu of coffees and teas. Patrons may also order a tapas selection or a traditional Middle Eastern dish. - Pal |
