Bills Making Big Splash, Trade for Cassel and McCoy

Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills traded for star running back LeSean McCoy, and Wednesday they acquired former Patriot quarterback Matt Cassel from the Vikings.

McCoy was traded to Buffalo on Tuesday in a deal that sent linebacker Kiko Alonso, a Bills 2013 second round pick, to Philadelphia. The move likely signifies the end the C.J. Spiller era at Ralph Wilson Stadium. 

Wednesday's trade brings Cassel back to the AFC East --following stints in Kansas City and Minnesota -- in exchange for a pair of undisclosed draft picks.

Cassel, age 32, started 3 games for the Vikings in 2013, and 6 games in 2012 -- posting a total record of 4-5 with 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.  Overall, in his 9 year career, Cassel is 33-38 as a starter, and has amassed 96 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, and 15,727 career passing yards. 

McCoy was a second round pick by the Eagles in 2009, and played six seasons in Philadelphia.  He surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in four of those seasons, and posted a career best 1,607 in 2013.  He has 44 career rushing touchdowns, with another 10 touchdowns as a receiver.  

In addition,  McCoy has proven to be extremely durable, having only missed 6 games (of 96 possible) in his career. In contrast, his predecessor, C.J. Spiller missed 7 games in 2014 alone.  

Spiller is currently a free agent, and this move is likely a sign of the Bills moving on from their first round pick (10th overall) from the 2010 draft.
