Christmas seems to have come a week early for one school. ESPN is reporting that former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has agreed to become the new head coach for Youngstown State. Pelini is expected to be announced officially Wednesday in Youngstown. . Bo went to high school there and joins former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel who is now serving as the Youngstown State President. After seven seasons in Nebraska and some 67 victories the Corn Huskers fired Pelini in late November. Perhaps with illusions of a higher college football royalties. Nebraska was a dismal program a mere shadow of the Tom Osborne teams before Pelini. Yet after seven years and a sharp climb back into the mix of top teams it was not enough to save Pelini's job. After all he not only failed to win a national title but even come close. Pelini's teams also failed to win any major bowl games. Pelini replaces Eric Wolford, who was fired last month after going 31-26 in five seasons. The Penguins are a FCS school. |
