Chipping away at the nfl

It's playoff time in the NFL. No more fantasy football to control are emotions, much less our rooting interests. Time for the referees to let the behemoth's play and tuck those yellow handkerchiefs deep within their striped shorts (yeah right). The tournament not withstanding, just a couple thoughts on goings on off the field.

1) Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops is rumored to be the next man to walk the sidelines for the Cleveland Browns. This may be appealing to the Youngstown, Ohio native for two reasons. Money and a chance to "shop for the groceries" as one hall of fame coach once uttered. Any other reason would beg for the question...why? Until Stoops announces his plans for the future, he remains a topic of consideration. Look for this. A new head coach is needed some 191 miles south of Norman,
Ok. The team is the Dallas Cowboys. Owner Jerry Jones made reference that there would be a coaching change if the Cowboys were to not make the playoffs. In the next few weeks look for Jason Garrett's dismissal lead to the hiring of what will then be the former head coach of the Sooners.

2) The Houston Texans will not trade the number one overall pick in the coming NFL draft, regardless of what team owner Bob McNair has said. "Maybe we'll trade down and still get a quarterback that can do the job and get an outstanding defensive player" he said on Friday. Here's the wrench in the soup. Newly hired Bill O'Brien is somewhat an offensive guru type. His offenses at Penn State the past two seasons showed sincere creativity, and between Josh McDaniel's stints here in New England, did everything asked as Bill Belichick's offensive coordinator. Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is a close second, but look for Texas A&M signal caller Johnny Manziel to go first overall. I can't help but think that O'Brien is salivating at the opportunity to incorporate his excitable style into his offensive scheme
