By The Dip It is time for the MLB fantasy trade deadline. For some owners this is your last chance to bolster your teams before the playoffs. Most playoff ready teams have their lineups all set at this point. However, if you have a major injury, or your team has a couple of Miami juice-heads on it, then you may need to make a late season trade. The Problem: This is the time of year were team owners fall off the face of the earth. I hate this, but it’s a long season and not everyone in the fantasy universe can commit to six months of baseball. So you won’t be able to trade with those absentee owners.
The Solution: now is the time to find the owner who is one spot out of the playoffs. The owner who thinks they have a chance to make it this year. What To Do: Use the best trade in the arsenal; the 2 for 1 swap. Put up two of your mediocre guys for their one good one. Don’t be scared, you know you have interchangeable players on your team that you mull over starting every week. Do yourself a favor and get them off your team, and land yourself a high-middle guy. Perhaps you can grab an underachiever from a good team. Maybe you nab someone in their contract year...someone like Mike Napoli. If that’s too risky, try and grab a good player who plays multiple positions; a la Victor Martinez. Obviously your best bet is to take the NFL trade deadline approach, and don’t do anything. But sometimes rolling the dice can work.d |
