![]() The first round of the 2013 NFL Draft was full of surprises. Whether those surprises where good or bad you had to be shocked. Geno Smith, Eddie Lacy, and Manti Teo were all snubbed out of the first round and left wondering when will they be drafted? Let's start with the first pick where I officially threw out my draft board. Eric Fisher was taking over Luke Joekel, when Joekel was pretty much a lock at this pick. Fisher who is a great OL, I just thought Joekel was a little more versatile at the position.
Next we had an onslaught of trades. Miami traded down to get Dion Jordan at number 3 which the Raiders received the number twelve pick and the 42nd pick which put them in the second round. The Raiders selected D.J. Hayden the feel good story of the draft, after almost dying on the field he gets selected 12th overall and told people he was excited to be a Raider. St. Louis traded down with Buffalo and landed Tavon Austin and Buffalo with this pick took E.J. Manuel QB Florida State. Over Geno Smith and Ryan Nassib both more pro ready than Manuel in my opinion. New England traded out of the first round completely so Minnesota could get it's third first round draft pick. They added three key players in Sharrif Floyd, Xavier Rhodes, and Corradelle Patterson to replace Percy Harvin. San Francisco traded down to get there guy in Matt Reid from LSU. Could they also end up with the Honey Badger as well? The draft is not over yet so here is some day two predictions. Expect Geno Smith to be taken by Jacksonville with the first pick in the second round. Tank Corradine to end up wearing Silver and Black. Also expect Matt Barkely to be the new back-up to Tom Brady in New England. - Stephen "Mr. Combine" Moul |
