For those who don’t know, Ben Revere is an Outfielder for the Rochester Red Wings, the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins and currently ranked as the 4th best Twins prospect in their farm system. His statistics for the season are: 17 games played, .309 batting average, with 5 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, 7 runs scored, and has an OBP of .351. In short, he’s a guy that’s going to get on base a lot and be running the bases constantly, being a viable option to score each time. Now the question remains of why did he make such impression on yours truly. At a recent game I was intrigued by the young outfielder. Though the Red Wings lost 7-6, he put up a valiant effort in their defeat. Revere connected on 3 hits during 5 at-bats, the only consistent hitter for the Red Wings for the entire game. Secondly and most importantly, he was able to get into scoring position easily. Revere was able to swipe up 3 bases for his team, leading both sides for the game. Every time Revere stole a base, he had a good jump and used blazing speed to get ahead of the throw. And finally, he accounted for 3 of his team’s 6 runs, scoring 2 runs himself while driving in another. Pretty damn impressive to say the least. I can see a bright future for Mr. Revere. If he keeps up his numbers and plays with a high motor, it will not be long before he gets called up to Minnesota. But if I am an opposing team’s general manager and need a consistent hitter than can give me speed on the bases, I wouldn’t hesitant to call up the Twins for a trade for Mr. Revere. - Ryan Fox |
