The Providence Friars Friars men's basketball team defeated Binghamton, 66-45 on Nov. 17 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Senior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) led the Friars in scoring with 12 points. Providence jumped out to a 25-8 lead with eight minutes left in the first half, before the Bearcats ran off a 21-8 run over the final 7:57 of the half to end the first 20 minutes of play down, 33-29. Senior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) and sophomore guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) each scored six points to lead the Friars. Binghamton's Nick Madray led all scorers with 10 points, going 4-of-8 from the field, including two 3-pointers. In the first twelve minutes of the second half, the Friars did not allow any field goals, while Providence scored 29 points. Providence's lead grew to 30 points (64-34) with 5:54 left in the game. Senior center Carson Desrosiers (Windham, N.H.) had a game-high 10 boards. He also had eight points and four blocks. Junior Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) scored 11 points and sophomore Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points, seven assists and five steals. Binghamton was led by Dusan Perovic with 13 points going 6-of-11 from the field. With the victory, the Friars recorded their 37th consecutive non-conference victory at home. The streak began on December 21, 2009. The Friars will return to action to take on Navy for their third of five games in eight days. The game will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Fox Sports 2 will televise the contest. |
