By Coach Hayes With the non-conference part of the schedule finishing up and Big Ten play just around the corner, the Ohio State Buckeyes are showing improvement on both sides of the ball. The running back play has been excellent even though they have been missing their top rusher and scorer from last year, Carlos Hyde. Jordan Hall has stepped up in a huge way by filling in for Hyde by contributring a couple 100+ yard games, helping the Buckeye offense score points at will, especially in the 1st quarter of all three games so far. The last non-conference game is against FAMU, an FCS team. It just happens to be the first game Carlos Hyde will be eligible to play in. Nothing wrong with playing a creampuff for your first game back. Oh yeah, FAMU is getting paid 900,000 bucks to come into Ohio Stadium to take the beating. I'm sure with that kind of money they will gladly lay down and let the Buckeyes do what they want. In my opinion the game may well be over before the 1st quarter ends. The Buckeyes may even cover the over by themselves. As I said before, Carlos Hyde is back after serving a 3 game suspension for an off-field incident that happened before the season started. He was later cleared of the violation but coach Urban Meyer made it clear if you break the rules there will be a price to pay, even if you are the best player on the team. So Hyde sat those 3 games. It shows how much depth the Buckeyes really have in their running game. Lately, it's been a competition to even get on the field with all the talent they have in the backfield. It starts from the top with upper classmen and goes right down to the true freshmen. Hyde better be in shape and ready to play because if he shows any sign of weakness, there are 4 very talented RBs just waiting to get their shot on this great team. Oh yeah by the way the Buckeyes are on a 15 game win streak, which is the longest in the country. The last game the Buckeyes lost was their bowl game against Florida back in january of 2012. Urban Meyer wasn't even the coach yet.
So Carlos Hyde better be ready to show the 100,00+ Buckeye fans and millions across this great nation just how great he can be. If he doesn't rush for over a 100 yards and at least a few TDs, then is hardcore Buckeye fan will be disappointed. Anytime a great college football powerhouse takes on an inferior opponent and especially one that is from a much lower division, they better take it to them hard and fast. Don't let FAMU get any momentum or wind in their sails. Score early and often. So this is my challenge to you Carlos Hyde, run hard and fast like you did last year for those perfect Buckeyes. The Buckeye faithful want to see what you got and hope what you did last year wasn't a one time thing. Flex those muscles and eat the other guys lunch. Laugh all the way to the endzone and take no prisoners. The Wisconsin game is a week away which opens Big Ten play. Don't get cocky this week or look ahead to next week. Just play your game and then concentrate on the Badgers. As always O-H-I-O! |
