By Coach Hayes That's right, it's college football time! We are in week 2 of 12, and the passion is about to flow like a raging river. This week, I want the talk about the Michigan/Notre Dame rivalry that is coming to an end. I know they have only played 40 times, which is not that much when you at the big picture of college football, but it is the modern day rivalry that makes it so great. Two years ago they played the first night game in Michigan; history at the big house. The atmosphere was electric and the game lived up to the hype. Michigan won with a last second touchdown and the place blew up. Last year, Notre Dame got its revenge in South Bend. Before that game, the atheletic directorsof both schools at mid-field and Notre Dme notified Michigan that the rivalry would end after next year's game. In my opinion, that was the worst wayto handle the situation. Now I'm not a Michigan guy at all, in fact I hate Michigan with a passion, but come on Notre Dame have some class. Tonight is the second night game in the history of the Big House. Notre Dame better bring its A-game because they are going to need it. Coach Brian Kelley downplayed the importance of this rivalry because they haven't played as many times as say USC, but then retracted the statement earlier this week. That just shows you the Fighting Irish have no class. They follow the lead of their head coach. So when kickoff occurs at 8 PM tonight, the Irish better watch out. Notre Dame is not the same team they were last yea,r and Michigan is a much improved team. I really hate pumping the tires of Michigan, butin this case, it is warranted. I have Big Ten pride and it shows. I predict that Michigan wins, and does so convincingly.
Elsewhere in college football: There are plenty more big games on this great Saturday. Georgia plays South Carolina in a huge game in the SEC. Georgia is coming off a loss to Clemson and is looking to bounce back. I believe they will. Florida is playing an up-and-coming Miami team in a battle of the Sunshine Sate. It's going to be a slug fest, but I pick the U! My Ohio State Buckeyes are playing the Aztecs of SDSU. Of course, the Buckeyes are going to take it to the Aztecs after a somewhat okay showing against Buffalo. The defense will have their most of their starters for this game and will show exactly who they are. Braxton Miller again will show why he is the frontrunner for Heisman and why they will roll through the year to the National Championship. Again O-H-I-O and bring the pain baby! |
