It was announced on Feb. 29 that Providence junior guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) was one of 11 finalists the USBWA’s Oscar Robertson Award. The Oscar Robertson Award is presented by the USBWA to the Men’s National Player of the Year.
Voting for the awards is conducted by members of the USBWA. The USBWA is comprised of over 900 sports journalists covering college basketball for newspapers, magazines and websites. The USBWA player of the year award will be presented on April 11 at the College Basketball Awards gala and dinner at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
Dunn, who was an Associated Press Preseason All-American and BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, ranks second in the BIG EAST in assists (6.3) and first in steals (2.9). He also ranks fifth in the league in scoring (16.4 ppg). He is the first Friar ever to register 1,000 points, 500 assists, 400 rebounds and 200 steals. In 89 career games, Dunn has recorded 1,115 points, 515 assists, 465 rebounds and 203 steals.
