Ryan L. Fox The temperature: in the 70s. The weather: sunny and partly cloudy. The day: Saturday. It was the perfectly day to play some baseball. However since the weather caused Friday’s contest to be postponed, the McCoy faithful were treated to a doubleheader delight between their Pawtucket Red Sox and the visiting Gwinnett Braves. They (along with the PawSox) were also treated with a special appearance by MLB Hall-of-Famer and legendary Boston Red Sox, Pedro Martinez. Game 1 had LHP Eduardo Rodriguez make his fourth rehab start against Braves pitcher John Grant. It was a tug-a-war affair as the Braves took Game 1 by the score of 3-2, including two solo shot home runs. At the plate, the PawSox were led by the bat of LF Bryce Brentz, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Rodriguez, himself, went 5.2 IP, giving up 7 hits, 3 runs (only 2 were earned), hit one batter, and struck out 3 on 100 pitches (71 for strikes). Game 2 saw another southpaw, Brian Johnson (1-3, 3.86) take the mound for the PawSox. However things started off rocky as Johnson gave up 3 walks to start the game and a base-clearing double to make it 3-1. PawSox kept chipping at the lead before exploding in the bottom of the 5th with 5 runs to make it 8-4 at that point. The Braves scored two more runs to make it 8-6 and were looking to take the lead in the 9th. However PawSox RHP Kyle Martin got the final three outs as the PawSox won 8-6 After game 2, PawSox skipper Kevin Boles spoke with the media, talking about his teams’ performance in both games, the status of Eduardo Rodriguez, and much more. Also, bonus interview as PawSox OF Bryce Brentz took time to speak with the media as well. Click Play & Listen |
