It was a cold and balmy Saturday as the boys of McCoy took to the diamond to continue their weekend series with their International North Division rivals, the Rochester Red Wings. The two teams had faced each other before back on April 4/18-4/21 in Rochester, New York, where the PawSox won 3 out of the 4 games. Now with the two teams meeting up at McCoy for a weekend series, Mother Nature had her way and rained out what would have been game one of the series back on Thursday. So instead of a regular 7:05 p.m. start on Saturday, it was turned into a doubleheader (the second doubleheader of the season for the PawSox).
Game 1 started at 5:05 p.m. and many PawSox fans were treated to an offensive showing by the home team. The PawSox batters hit 3 home runs (by 2B Marco Hernandez, 1B Chris Marrero, and 3B Jantzen Witte) and scored 8 runs while William Cuevas (5.1 IP, 1 H, 5 BB, 7 K) picked up the win.
Game 2 started at 7:33 p.m. and it seemed like the PawSox picked up where they left off with a 2-run RBI double by LF Rusney Castillo to jump to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. However the Red Wings got on board with an RBI single by C John Murphy to make it 2-1 in the top of the fifth. Then in the sixth, they took the lead on an 2 RBI single by 1B Kenny Vargas to make it 3-2, which ended up being the final score. After Game 2, PawSox skipper Kevin Boles sits down with the media to talk about both games including the performance of starter William Cuevas in game 1, the PawSox offense in the first game, the call to use LHP Robby Scott as the starter in Game 2, and much more.
