This weekend, the McCoy faithful were treated to a little Red Sox/Yankees. Or rather, their Triple-A teams with the Pawtucket Red Sox hosting a weekend series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Taking the mound for the PawSox was Roenis Elias (4-3, 3.54) who was looking for his 5th win of the 2016 Triple-A season. Also continuing their rehab assignments down in Pawtucket were OF/INF Brock Holt and C Ryan Hanigan as each players were slowly making their way back to the majors.
For those expecting fireworks of some sort, they were not disappointed. The RailRiders jumped to an early 3-0 off a three-run home run by the bat of 1B Tyler Austin in the top of the first inning. The PawSox got on the board themselves with a two-run double by CF Rusney Castillo to make it 3-2. However Austin helped push the lead back up to 4-2 with a solo shot in the top of the fourth and then later on in the sixth, hit his third home run of the game to make it 5-3 at the time. However the PawSox got runs in the later innings off the bats of LF Brock Holt and DH Henry Ramos to knot things up 5-5. After the PawSox left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, the game went into extra innings. There, the RailRiders’ offense exploded with 3 home runs to make it 8-5 and that’s where the final score stood. After the game, PawSox skipper Kevin Boles sat down and spoke with the media for his usual ‘After Game Q & A.’ During the session, Boles talked about his team’s performance, how the team battled back after being down, CF Rusney Castillo’s performance, and much more.
