Pal After 22 years in the bigs, Jim Thome is calling it quits. The slugger made it official this weekend when he signed a one day contract with the Cleveland Indians. The team he broke in with and perhaps had his greatest years. Thome 43 finished playing with 612 homers and 1699 RBIs. He last played in the majors in 2012 and had been trying to make a roster since.
Rangers Claim Carp He wanted out of Boston and he got it. Platoon outfielder Mike Carp was designated for assignment Friday by the Red Sox. The one time acclaimed Mariners prospect seemed to have resurrected his career as a clutch role player for the World Champion Sox. However as Boston struggled this season so did Carp. Unhappy with his playing time Carp publicly asked to be moved late in July. Boston as unable to package Carp in any of their deadline deals so the club & Carp parted ways on August 1st.
