Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has been named National League Player of the Week for the week ending May 4, 2014. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.
In six games last week Tulowitzki led the Majors in hitting (.619, 13-for-26), runs scored (9), hits (13), slugging (1.048) and on-base percentage (.692). The three-time All-Star tied for first among National Leaguers with eight RBI and his 22 total bases were ranked second in the Majors and tops in the Senior Circuit. Tulowitzki clubbed a pair of homers and connected for three doubles on the week while drawing four walks. He notched five multi-hit performances in the six-game span, including three three-hit efforts.

On Saturday, Tulowitzki helped the Rockies edge the visiting New York Mets in dramatic fashion. Down 10-9 and facing Mets closer Kyle Farnsworth to lead-off the bottom of the ninth, Tulowitzki collected his third single of the game and came around to score his third run of the game on Charlie Culberson's pinch-hit walk-off homer one batter later. It was Tulowitzki's second consecutive three-hit day after going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI in Friday's matchup between the two Clubs en route to a 10-3 win. The 29-year-old slugger homered in back-to-back games on April 28th and 29th, propelling the Rox to two wins over their N.L. West-rival Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. On Tuesday, his go-ahead two-run blast gave the Rockies a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning of an eventual 5-4 victory. In Monday's contest, Tulowitzki reached base safely in five plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a pair of walks, for his second such game this season (also: 4/20 vs. PHI). The Long Beach State product also had two runs scored and three driven-in on the day as the Rockies took an 8-5 decision. This is Tulowitzki's fifth career N.L. Player of the Week citation, having won previously for the weeks ending August 12, 2007; September 20, 2009; September 12, 2010; and September 19, 2010.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt (.440, 4 R, 11 H, 2 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI, .760 SLG, .481 OBP); Yasiel Puig (.444, 4 R, 12 H, HR, 7 RBI, 3 SB, .592 SLG, .531 OBP) and Dee Gordon (.355, 6 R, 11 H, 4 RBI, 6 SB, .394 OBP) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; San Diego's Rene Rivera (.364, 3 2B, HR, 7 RBI, .909 SLG, .364 OBP); Anthony Rizzo (.357, 6 R, 5 H, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 1.000 SLG, .591 OBP) of the Chicago Cubs; and Milwaukee pitchers Wily Peralta (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO, 8.0 IP) and Francisco Rodriguez (0-0, 3 SV, 0.00 ERA, 3 SO, 3.0 IP).

In recognition of his National League Player of the Week Award, Troy Tulowitzki will be awarded a watch courtesy of Game Time, the leader in licensed sports watches, available at MLB.com.
