The UFC made history on Saturday evening with the Debut of Ronda Rousey. Rousey had become a big draw in Strike Force, she had ended all of her fights early in the 1st round with her trademark arm bar. Strike Force was recently bought out by the UFC. Dana White had never wanted to feature women in the past. However, by purchasing Strike Force and seeing the media attention that Ronda Rousey was garnering, White had no choice but to feature Rousey in the UFC's first ever women's bout. Dana White not only featured Rousey, he decided to put her in the main event of UFC 157. This was a bold move, considering the card featured former champions Dan Henderson, Lyoto Machida and Urijah Faber. Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche
The pressure was on in Ronda Rousey's UFC debut. Rousey had finished all six of her past opponents off with her signature arm bar. In fact, of Rousey's first six challengers, only Miesha Tate had made it past the first minute of the fight. Marine Corps. veteran Liz Carmouche hoped to change that. Carmouche stopped Rousey's early take down attempts, she even scored with an upkick off of her back. Rousey eventually gained ground control and locked in her arm bar on Carmouche, forcing her to tap out at 4:49 in the first round. Rousey became the first women to win in UFC history with her submission victory over Carmouche. Winner: Ronda Rousey Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida Dan Henderson was in line for a light heavyweight title shot against Jon "Bones Jones before an injury took him out of that fight. This fight would be very important for "Hendo" to earn back his title shot. Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida most wll likely receive a shot at the light heavyweight championship in the summer, against the winner of Jon Jones vs Chael Sonnen. Winner: Lyoto Machida Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar The "California Kid" and former 145 pound champion Urijah Faber made quick work of Menjivar.
