URI Freshman Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

Dayton junior Dyshawn Pierre was named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday. Rhode Island freshman Jared Terrell was also named the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were for games played Feb. 16-22.Pierre had an outstanding week for the Flyers, averaging 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting .538 (14-of-26) from the field, .750 (6-for-8) from 3-point range and .889 (8-of-9) free throws. 

A forward from Whitby, Ontario, he also had nine assists and four blocks in the two games and he did not turn the ball over in either game. In UD's win over Saint Joseph’s, Pierre scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds. His two free throws with two seconds left sealed the four-point win. He followed that with a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds at Duquesne, extending his double-double streak to three games. In the Saint Joseph's win, Pierre also became the 44th player and first Canadian to reach 1,000 points in University of Dayton basketball history.

Terrell played a major role in the Rams' 2-0 week, helping lead URI to its best start in A-10 history at 11-3. At home against UMass, Terrell scored 14 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 2-3 from 3-point range. He also dished out five assists and two steals without committing a turnover. The win over UMass snapped Rhode Island’s seven-game losing streak versus the Minutemen. A guard from Weymouth, Mass., Terrell added 16 points against George Mason, shooting 6-of-12 (.500) from the field with five rebounds. For the week, the freshman averaged 15 points, connecting on 52.4 percent from the floor (11-of-21), 50.0 percent (4-for-8) from 3-point land, and 4-of-4 from the foul line.

Jordan Barham averaged 12.5 points in a 2-0 week for Davidson, shooting 66.7 percent from the field, including hitting 7-of-8 (.875) at George Washington … Micah Mason scored 16.5 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a split week for Duquesne, including a 17-point, 9-assist performance in the win over Dayton … Fordham’s Eric Paschall scored 21 points at George Mason, shooting 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from 3-point range while turning in a perfect 6-of-6 at the line for the week … Shevon Thompson again had back-to-back double-doubles for George Mason, with 19 points (on a perfect 6-of-6 from the field) and 10 rebounds against Fordham and 15 points and 14 rebounds against Rhode Island … Mason freshman Isaiah Jackson averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in two games for the Patriots … La Salle’s Jordan Price averaged 20.5 points in two games, including 22 points at Saint Louis and 19 points and six assists against Duquesne … Rhode Island’s E.C. Matthews averaged 17.0 points per game in a pair of wins, tallying 16 against UMass and 17 at George Mason … Terry Allen had a pair of double-doubles for Richmond in two wins, with 15 points and 11 rebounds at St. Bonaventure and 12 points and 10 rebounds against George Washington … Saint Louis freshman Milik Yarbrough scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds while shooting 61.5 percent from the field at VCU … Treveon Graham averaged 20 points in two wins, including a 24-point, 10 rebound double-double against UMass.
