Welking Away

Tom Brady's most prolific target is moving out West.  Wes Welker turned down a 2 year, 10 million dollar contract offer from New England; opting instead for an extra 2 million dollars in Denver.

Welker becameone of the most productive receivers in NFL history while playing in Foxboro.  He caught more than 100 passes, and accumulatedover 1,000 yards in 5 of his 6 seasons in New England. However,  Relations between Wes and the Patriots organization became rocky in the past few years, as he and the team had an ongoing contract dispute.  So, it was no major surprise to see him taking his talents elsewhere.

As painful as it will be to see him catching passes from Peyton Manning rather than Tom Brady, it is hard to argue with the decision.  He was one of the best bargains in the history of professional sports, earning just over $27 million ($9+ Million of which came in 2012) in six years of service as one of the top offensive players in the league.   The team had every chance to open up the checkbook and reward his efforts, but they chose to lowball and undercut.  Wes just took the best deal out there, and I can't blame him.

So, anybody who thinks We Welker just spit in the face of New Englan sports fans, well... is an idiot.
