A quarter of a century ago, Soviet Communism, the dark tyranny that had controlled dozens of nations and was responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent victims, suddenly collapsed. In just two years, from 1989 to 1991, the Berlin Wall fell, the Soviet Union disintegrated, and the Cold War ended. There was dancing in the streets and champagne toasts on top of the wall, and most of the world got on with living, satisfied that was the end of Marxism-Leninism. But it wasn’t and it isn’t. There are still five communist regimes, including China, the most populous nation in the world, as well as North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba. The legacy of communism is evident in Russia’s brazen seizure of the Crimea and its open support of pro-Russian militants in Eastern Ukraine. Professors in American colleges continue to teach that Marxism is just a good idea that has never been really tried. Although Tax Season is over, scam artists are still ramping up efforts to defraud taxpayers. With an influx of complaints from local consumers – including several employees of the Office of Attorney General – Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin is cautioning Rhode Islanders to be wary of calls claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
A Sharia (Islamic law) court in Malaysia has sentenced nine transgender women to fines, and two to one-month jail terms under a discriminatory law that prohibits “a male person posing as a woman,” Human Rights Watch said today. Religious authorities in the northeastern Malaysian state of Kelantan arrested the women in a raid on June 16, 2015, and they pled guilty the next day. A lawyer filed an appeal and the two women sentenced to jail were released on bail pending the outcome.

When Donald Trump announced his intent to run for President in 2016, journalists and media personalities rejoiced. Trump is a man who has never been afraid to speak his (delusional) mind, or attach his name to anything (or everything), but does the billionaire-turned-reality television star (turned orange) really have a chance at winning his party's nomination? Well, if you are even considering checking Trump's name on the ballot, check out these Tweets that embody why he should never be allowed near 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. |
