By Rob Duguay Here’s a challenge for anyone reading this: I bet that you can’t find a better lyricist in Providence than Sean Murphy. Some people might laugh at that statement but I will stand by it until my last day, he’s the true poet laureate of the Providence music scene and the intelligence of his words can’t be equaled. You probably know him as the raging ball of fury during his time as the lead singer of the revolutionary hardcore punk band Verse, but he currently has this really cool alt-punk band called Bad Swimmers that have their debut album See You currently out. In the vein of acts like Sebadoh, Built To Spill, Heatmiser and Jawbreaker, this piece of music combines those complex styles while still being able to hit you like a boxing glove to the face. Joined by Dylan Kulpa on alternating guitar, Mark Ducharme on bass and Jeff Novak on drums, Murphy still brings out his trademark emotional intensity while the band possess a captivating emphatic sound. A refreshing album that is all full of blood, sweat and tears, Bad Swimmers’ new album promises to be another one of those masterpieces to come out of The Creative Capital in 2013.

Freddy Choyle - 990WBOB@gmail.com I awoke this morning to the wonderful delight of an unseasonably warm sun shinning day.Almost immediately the decision was made to take the long way to work and soak up as much of this weather as possible. Than I must admit I became riddled with guilt, as I scrambled through the mental rolodex of excuses. The search was on for the perfect excuse to miss work. The diamond in the rough of white lies that is as believable as it as impenetrable. This Friday's Five are the best possible "Excuses for the Boss" use with caution. The Art Bar, with it’s exclusive schedule (Friday & Saturday Evenings 9-2:00 AM) still attracts the 25+ crowd to their weekend party scene. Mixing the hits of today with throwback favorites (and granting an all request Saturday), keeps this plush cocktail lounge hopping with DJ’s Lana and SPIKE manning the boards. The proper dress code and age guidelines are not for the college crowd, and this makes Art Bar a great alternative to the typical Providence dance hall experience. The environment is sleek and upscale with the management separating the drinking and dance areas to avoid getting your nice duds soaked with spilled beverages. With everyone dressed to impress, the crowd watching gives off a cosmopolitan vibe. Located at 171 Chestnut Street in Providence, The Art Bar is the perfect top off to a special evening as well an attractive environment to drink and mingle. The easy free parking keeps the mood secure with having a great time. You can check out this city’s adult hotspot on Friday November 22nd while providing a donation to a very worthy (and local) cause when The Art Bar hosts a Coats for the Cold Drive. Donating an older coat will get you free admission to the fun and festivities. By Rob Duguay For over a decade The Brother Kite have stood at the forefront as one of the premier alternative rock bands in the Providence music scene and with good reason. Along with a radio friendly pop vibe they have a sound that resonates the styles of R.E.M., The Replacements, The Pixies and Buffalo Tom while at the same time creating music so unique that they can call it their own. This seasoned quintet currently have a brand new album out in Model Rocket that flat out kicks ass with a great mix of loud, emphatic tracks along with a few ballads to keep it honest. 2013 has been an amazing year for albums becoming masterpieces, you can definitely put The Brother Kite’s Model Rocket in that exclusive group.
By: Mike Holmes WBOB’s own Dan Martin [Comics Corner] got some of his comedy chocolate in Senior Discount’s punk peanut butter in August when he opened up for the first live recording of the “Chuck and Brad Podcast”.Pal - Pal@990WBOB.com Episode 405 of the Walking Dead was so pulse racing, so complex, so interesting it's difficult to know were to begin. Once again the writers captivated a national audience with gore, cliff hangers, oh and plenty of zombie action.
