Sir Robert Giusti You know Newport is about to celebrate another fine Folk Festival this weekend and if you have the tickets and time to kick it, you surely will have a memorable experience. But for those of you who can't afford the ticket, or are stuck in weekend work hours, (or maybe like their music louder) local promotions company Intrinsic Events has a rocking alternative this Sunday at Fete. A taste of American Roots Rock featuring five blistering sets of music starting at 4:00 PM (headliners Nashville Pussy are scheduled for 10:00 to appease the Monday morning worker) plus on site BBQ, pinup girls and hotrods and motorcycles on display. All of this is billed as a pre-party for the infamous 2014 edition of Milltown Hotrod Rock in Roll show (August 1st and 2nd) in Sturbridge. The line up starts off with The Red Pennys playing rockabilly rhythms, followed by the powerful Jay Berndt and The Orphans melting into a sizzling set of Sasquatch and the Sick A Billys who in turn set the stage for Lexington, Kentucky rockers Fifth on the Floor. The show is topped off with the legendary Atlanta bred Nashville Pussy who are touring to support their latest release Up the Dosage (on the SPV | Steamhammer label). If you have never seen them live your missing the point. The songs are the soundtrack for a high intensity show not unlike Ramones but with anthems to the sleazy underbelly of modern "cultcha". Picture AC/DC mixed with southern flavored psychobilly in a mixed gendered lineup that is on their fifth bass player (Bonnie Buitrago) and third drummer (Jeremy Thompson). Through it all has been the husband/wife team of Blaine Cartwright on lead vocals and rhythm guitar and the superb and highly respected lead guitar work of Ruyter Suys(pronounced "Rider Sighs"). Fete's main room is a great place to see a show and if you've never been to the 103 Dike Street location, your in for a treat. Remember, this is an early show and will start on time at 4:00 to accommodate such an amazing array of rocking. |
