Evan Mckay Ok. I am not the best stealth gamer, I never have been. I use decades of experience and cat-like gamer reflexes to lay my foes low in highly skilled martial combat. I run headlong into battle until I defeat my foes. I am just being honest! That being said, Thief 4 is one of the worst games I have played in a long time. This game had so much promise! I was excited! I could be Garret! The master thief! Sneak around in the shadows, back stab some people, then dump the bodies in the river. I imagined a game that would combine the best parts of Mirror's Edge with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and thrust it into the world of Garret the master thief! They were so far from the mark it is laughable! I am playing on master difficulty and I can not even fight 2 guards at once. A guy backhanding you with a crossbow can kill you. Combat should be hard! Really hard! The game manhunt comes to mind. All the enemies are tough psychopaths. If you got into an open fight with one or more you would probably win but at high health cost, and it would take so long that the game punishes you for being less stealthy. But it is possible to do because you have weapons and so do the guards. They are trying to sell Garret as some shitty steampunk batman, it is awful. Garret never cared about killing guards. He would rather not but in no way would he get bested by a ding-dong swinging a crossbow at him. He would draw his sword and dismantle that guy then run and hide. This game also insists that there are different ways to play the game; "Ghost", "Opportunist", and "Predator". Which is a bold claim considering how limiting every level is. Eidos Montreal did everything in their power to make this game as linear and as caged-in as possible. When they say there are 3 "play styles" there are not kidding. There are exactly 3 ways to play the game only. Every thing in the game I have played so far is pretty much designed like a corridor. It is horrendous. I think there are more choices of "play style" in MegaMan 1. I know that my reviews are full of rants, gripes and run-on sentences, but this game is truly such a step backwards for the series and video games as a whole that it is going to take another 10 years for anyone to talk about thief again. I hate returning games, I feel like they all have something to offer...but this shit is just lazy and awful. Single-handedly ruining one of the best franchises and studio names in history, I would say skip this awful, depressing game until it becomes available on sale on steam for $.99 |
