Evan McKay As my PS4 gathers a little dust after the refreshing super-powered madness that was InFamous: Second Sons, I gaze hopeful towards the future of this until-recently barren generation of console gaming. The Watchdogs powerbomb I was looking forward to may in fact be a powerdud, after watching that "new" gameplay trailer that was released a couple months ago that have the visuals looking like the cutting edge of 2011. I gaze even further to the most hyped-game of all time, Destiny. After watching the newest gameplay trailer for Destiny, I am all tingly all over again! The trailer starts off at the main screen, its just a black and white map that boldly proclaims "Destiny" at the top. The music is intense. Like, Halo intense. I would expect nothing less from this long-time cooking baby from Bungie. The premise of the trailer is narrated by a smooth epic baritone that explains the heroes must strike or earth will fall. They players need to assault a giant dome thing in "Old Russia". The three PC's run into the darkness. Based on the icons on the screen, gun, gun colors and little element symbols next to the ammo counter on HUD...this games smacks of a next-gen Halo, Borderlands hybrid. That sentence alone already is making me very, very excited for September 9th! The players run in and engage in a fire fight with, what appears to be, 2 different factions of enemies. There is the Hive and The Fallen. I have not yet explored the story page on the Destiny website, but this game already seems to have similar narrative themes to Halo. Humans vs Alien bad guys vs worse Alien bad guys. The players battle their way into this stronghold which has these 2 other factions battling each other. Again, borrowing from Halo, the player whips out a handheld A.I. that provides information support and is a sassy male version of Cortana. Then the players deploy "Ghost", which is the name of the aforementioned side kick, who has to hack this generator that lifts an energy field so the player can progress. In the tried-and-true trope of defending the computer while it hacks, a large number of enemies approach and the players begin epic next-gen combat. This scene looks awesome! There are multiple types of weapons, the players start casting spells, one of them dies and another player has to res the fallen player before the last player gets overwhelmed. It just looks exciting. |
