Evan Mckay -- Host of GG (6 PM Wed) Finally Finally FINALLY!!!! Watch Dogs has graced us with its fashionably late presence on this latest generation of console. There was a lot of drama surrounding this game, and its about damn time it showed up. Was the wait worth it? Hard to say....but one thing is for sure, this game is not fucking around!!! It's real, it's good, and it's real good! When I fired up this game, I did not know what to expect. There was so much anticipation, I felt like I was bound to be disappoint. The hype, the marketing and the drama were all soooo much, I was imagining a Thief scenario except worse. Fortunately that was not the case! They really manage to deliver all the genres they were promising into one neat package. The game is large parts GTA and Assassin's Creed, with a little bit of Fable mixed in. There are consequences for you actions but they are not un-repairable. There is unlimited weapon storage, unlimited cash storage and plenty of potential for out of control murder spree's. You can craft things like electronic lures and black out system keys. It really takes the sandbox genre into some really cool places. The only downside so far has been the lack of exposition. I could see this players having a hard time with this game at first. There is so much to do! Buy clothing and weapons, rank up skills, gain experience. The only real way to learn with this game is to drive around and cause trouble, then die getting yourself out of it. I feel like they could have done a better job effectively teaching you how to play the game with out you having to die a bunch. There is a definitely a learning curve to this game that does take some out of the way effort to conquer. Even if the developers assume that you will mess around in the classic GTA fashion and learn how to play via some laisez-faire Suzuki method of instruction, I think they should have put a little more time into crafting an intuitive tutorial that players of any experience level could play through and feel like a stone cold bad ass afterwards. Really though, that is the only problem I have so far. If you like GTA or Asscreed you really, really ought to play this game. It takes out all of the boring, easy-ass counters of creed, and puts in a little more seriousness then GTA has to make a really fun, intense single player experience..THAT (which I forgot to mention) seamlessly blends multi-play into it. Sometimes you just get invaded by a rival hacker that is attempting to claim a bounty on your data. You will be driving to a mission location then a purple area shows up on your radar, in which a random person is hacking you. You have until the progress fills up to find out which person in the radius it is. If you can find out which person it is, in this Assassin's creed style multi-player cat and mouse game, you then have to chase them down and kill them. Which is awesome when you do! I claim that this is the best "Next-gen" AAA game to date. I have not played Titanfall, but this game really blends all of these great genres together to make the Hi-tech GTA game we have all been waiting for! PLAY IT!!!!!! |
