Ryan Fox (@Spider_Fox87) Earlier this year, the Boston Bruins faced off against the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Unfortunately did not go their way as the Bs lost the series 4-3. But at the same time, there was another match-up on a different front between the two teams. Beginning on May 5, EA Sports had hockey fans vote on which NHL player would grace the cover of their next game NHL ’15. Representing the Bruins was Forward Patrice Bergeron, a man who has pretty much made a name for himself in the city of Boston and the NHL (see 2011 and 2013 playoff runs). He went up against the likes of St. Louis Blue Center/Right Wing T.J. Oshie and Ottawa Senators Defensemen Erik Karlsson, beating them both before moving onto the final round of voting. Ironically enough, his last opponent was none other than Montreal Canadien Defenseman PK Subban. From May 26 to June 1, fans cast their votes on which player would grace the new NHL ’15 cover. Then on June 24 during the NHL Awards Ceremony, the announcement was made. The winner of the voting was none other than Patrice Bergeron. He became the first Bruin to be on a video game cover since former Bruins goaltender Donald Moog back in 1994 for the video game NHL ’94 for the Sega Genesis. This announcement comes off a night were Bergeron won both the Selke Trophy (for the best defensive forward) and the NHL Foundation Award (for the player who applies commitment, perseverance and teamwork to enrich the lives of people in his community). So hats off to Patrice Bergeron. There is no player out there who deserves this award more than you. And to the Bruins fans out there, you may have missed out on beating the Canadiens in the playoffs. But at least you won’t have to see any Habs players on your NHL video game. |
