What do you think of when you hear the name Tim Thomas? Do you think Hero of the 2010-2011 Boston Bruins and their Stanley Cup winning season? Or do you Hate him for causing major discord in the Bruins organization for "taking a year off"? Some hockey analysts believe that he wants to go out on his own power instead of being trade bait this coming season. Some think he's doing it just to spite the Bruins Organization for trying to trade him in the off season of 2009-2010. But in this writer/fan's opinion, he's just trying to force a trade to the Colorado Avalanche. Thomas purchased a house and uprooted his family mid regular season this past year. Making most Bruins fans uneasy about him staying around after his contract is up. Tim Thomas also shares the same agent with Tuukka Rask so they could also be working a gambit to drive Tuukka's salary up as he is a free agent this off season. All in all, the Bruins faithful will have to hold their breath and wait to see if we have the goaltender duo next season or if we'll have a new goaltender between the pipes. ~David "The Dasian" Rivard twitter: @The_Dasian Exactly one week after Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in Mets history, the Seattle Mariners completed a combined no-hitter. Kevin Millwood led the way pitching six hitless frames. The last three were pieced together by five relievers. This is one of the most difficult accomplishments in all of sports considering there are some 4860 games played each year and usually less than three to four no hitters thrown in a good season. Millwood and the Mariners no-no is an even rarer gem. The last combined no hitter was thrown in 2003 when Houston blanked the Yankees in NY. Seattle's joint effort was only the tenth multi pitcher no hitter in major league history.
- Pal If you were to Google "ignorant jackass" inevitably you would stumble upon a picture of the idiot formerly known as Chad Johnson. Although this self promoting, self centered individual changed his name some years ago, I refuse to buy into his self-righteous attention seeking stupidity and refer to him as the Spanish equivilant of 85 (Which should technically be Ochenti-Cinco). Blessed with blazing speed and an uncanny ability to catch a football, Johnson made a name for himself early in his career. It used to be in the NFL, your performance on Sunday would get you the headlines. A squeaky clean image, a neat haircut, and 1000 yard season would make you a household name. Then came the renegade receiver era. The cameras became more concerned with what Chad was going to do after the play ended then the actual game itself. Irish dances, cheerleader proposals all made this idiot a national TV commodity. Ironically, the same mentality that made him a star have also led to his demise. Chad's constant focus was on his Twitter updates, and concern for his diminishing image. His inability to live outside the headlines and focus on the playbook have cost him... especially in New England. Given his release, unofficially because of his struggles to moderately comprehend the playbook, his career has come full circle. No longer can he just make it by with blazzing speed and and an unbelievable side line grab. The sad reality is for this fallen star, much like the rest of his cloth, is when the skills start to fade all that's left is the mouth. In the end we come to realize that the mouth was the one thing we could have done without. -Pal The Celtics have been on a winning streak downing the Miami Heat the last two games. This has been attributed to the performances by KG, Rondo and Ray Allen making his comeback after a persisting ankle injury. Rondo has been spectacular in the last three games, especially game 2 in Miami when he dropped 44 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists only to be out done in overtime the overtime lost to the Heat. Game 3 and 4 the Celtics got out to huge leads, but only to have the Heat storm back but ultimatley fall short in the end. Pierce has been hamppered by foul problems fouling out in 2 of the last 3 games, and fouls have been a huge problem overall for the Celtics. The Celtics bench has been playing better, which has helped them get their last two wins. The magic carpet ride could be over for them in game 5 however, with the possible return of Chris Bosh. Bosh could return as early as Tuesday's game 5 in Miami, but if he does he is not expected to start. But, the Celtics have evened up the series at 2-2 without Bosh playing a single minute in this series as of yet, and they have had their struggles without him in the line-up. Bosh is the missing piece of Miami's Big 3 and accounted for about 20 ppg before the injury to his abdominal muscle. Although he will not be at 100% when he returns, his presence alone on the floor could put a damper on the Celtics parade. Bosh would still be a force on the floor rebounding and annoying Garnett under the hoop. Also, Bosh on the floor would allow Lebron to play the small forward position the majority of the time, where he has dominated throughout his career, rather than playing as an undersized power forward. Bosh's return could ultimately lead to the Celtics last shot at a championship to fade away like the youth and vigor that their roster has lost in recent years. Only time will tell if Bosh's return could be the deterrent of the Celtics dreams to go up in smoke, or will they group together like the seasoned playoff team they are and pull out the series win.
