Results of MLB's Competitive Balance Lottery announced Provision of Collective Bargaining Agreement awards selections after 2015 Draft's first and second rounds Major League Baseball announced today the results of the third annual Competitive Balance Lottery, which will impact the order of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft. The drawing was conducted earlier this afternoon at Major League Baseball's New York offices and the results were first announced on MLB Network. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (July 28th, 2014) -- What started out as a business trip has turned into a personal vendetta for Julian Lane. A former contestant on Season 16 of The Ultimate Fighter, Lane will face Providence's Luis Felix on Friday, Aug. 8th, 2014 on the main card of "CES MMA XXV" at Twin River Casino airing live on AXS TV, a fight originally scheduled for June until Felix withdrew the week of due to an unspecified rib injury.
Forced to switch gears just two days before the event, the Mansfield, Ohio native instead faced Gemiyale Adkins at Twin River in June and won by unanimous decision, setting the stage for the fight he's been anticipating for the past three months, a five-round war with Felix for the vacant CES MMA Lightweight Title. August 8th the elite MMA promotion company is at it again with another punishing card. Last week on the 990WBOB LIVE Podcast Parente & Pal pro Scott Rehm joined the discussion to diagnose the upcoming fights at Twin River. Rehm a professional fighter in his own right also is the CES color commentator on the YouTube channel fightstreamcom. His play by play man WBOB's own Mike Parente give an expert in depth analysis and what to expect in the cage next week. Including the much anticipated Main Event between Julian Lane & Louis Felix. Only until his controversial comments cost the station money did WEEI's parent company, Entercom Communications, decide to act, suspending co-host Kirk Minihane on Friday for comments made about FOX Sports' reporter Erin Andrews after FOX pulled all of its advertising from Entercom stations nationwide, including WEEI. Michael Parente (@michaelparente) Kirk Minihane is aiming his venom at the wrong subject. The real “gutless bitch” in the Minihane-Erin Andrews fiasco is Entercom Communications.
The powers that be at Entercom, the parent company of Boston-based sports radio network WEEI, had no problem standing by their man when Minihane uttered his now infamous “gutless bitch” remark during the “Dennis and Callahan” show in reference to Andrews, the FOX Sports sideline reporter who drew Minihane’s ire during the Major League Baseball All-Star Game for lobbing softball questions at Cardinals’ pitcher Adam Wainwright. Not until Minihane’s insensitivity and borderline misogyny cost the station money did Entercom decide to act, suspending Minihane Friday night for one week after a second round of comments aimed toward Andrews prompted FOX Sports to pull its advertising from all Entercom stations nationwide and prohibit its media personalities from appearing as guests on WEEI. These are the Dog Days July and August not only represent the Dog Days in Major League Baseball, the same can be said in the NFL. The scrutinization of hundreds of hopeful players doing whatever they can to make a teams roster will be challenged by severe heat, intense coaches, galvanizing fans, and one giant leap in athletic prowess from their days in college. Many of those dreams will never be realized. There are some that are assured continuing onward, top draft picks and a revolving crop of high priced free agents playing their part but they have a shot, albeit a long one, to fulfill their dreams, and that's a lot more than most can say. No if's, ands or buts will remain after the next several weeks, and looking in the mirror may be easier knowing that he did all he could do in pursuit of a shot at glory. Let the games begin. There's always much to discuss at the trading deadline in baseball. Thursday the LIVE sports Podcast Parente & Pal dedicated a great deal of time and energy exploring the vast possibilities of major league stars on the move. From Boston to San Diego to Texas and Toronto, Parent & Pal covered every angle with witty commentary and expert guests. Should the Red Sox trade Lester? Can the Yankees make a run? Are the Blue Jays for real?
The NFL is back to work, shedding pounds and hopefully blockers. Always in shape and ready for camp are the dedicated members of the WBOB Sports crew. This week on the LIVE Podcast of Psycho Sports (Tuesdays at 5pm est) Michael Parente quarterbacks the conversation through a new season of possibilities and expectations. Joining Parente is WBOB's newest NFL beat writer Johnny Sunchips and from the Providence Journal writer Mark Daniels.
Chip Moraza-Pollard (right), the No. 1-ranked middleweight in the northeast, will battle No. 2 Harley Beekman on Aug. 8th at Twin River Casino as part of the main card of "CES MMA XXV," which will air live on AXS TV.
