Under the current ownership group the Boston Red Sox have been forced into some difficult financial decisions. They've had to part ways with some of their most popular stars an best players rather than strap themselves down into a pricey more importantly lengthy deal. Such is the case with ace lefty Jon Lester at least that's how it seems. However if the Sox fail to sign the All Star hurler they could be making a huge mistake. Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been named National League Player of the Week for the period ending July 20th. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network. After representing the Cubs in Minnesota in the 2014 Midsummer Classic last week, Rizzo led the Majors last weekend with three home runs, 14 total bases and a 1.273 slugging percentage. The 24-year-old was also tied for third in the N.L. with four RBI. He hit .455 (5-for-11) during the week and scored five runs while posting a .500 on-base percentage. The left-handed hitting slugger went 2-for-4 in his first contest after the All-Star break, clubbing a pair of homers and collecting three RBI in a losing effort as the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the Cubs, 5-4, in Friday's series-opener at Chase Field. The Boston Celtics have announced the addition of a new alternate logo, extending the team’s family of emblems and further expanding one of the world’s most recognized brands. The new logo, which was created in-house, features a modern take on the classic image of Lucky the leprechaun spinning a basketball refurbished in a clean contemporary style.

The next ten days in Beantown are going to be extremely instrumental as to the rest of the 2014 season. As the annual trade deadline rapidly approaches the Sox have to decide if they are buying new talent to make a run at the post season or selling what talent they deem expendable to procure prospects for the future. The Red Sox today activatd outfielder Shane Victorino from the disabled list. Victorino had been rehabbing his strained right hamstring at triple A Pawtucket.
Even so, the Red Sox have another up-and-coming player in the same position in the minors in Devin Marrero.
After 15 seasons in Boston we all thought he would retire a Celtic. However when Paul Pierce went to Brooklyn along with Kevin Garnett the basketball community took comfort knowing Pierce would remain with Kevin Garnett. Thursday Pierce left his long time friend and teammate and officially signed with the Wizards.
Pierce, who turns 37 is now apart of his third team in as many years. The future Hall of Famer averaged a career-low 13.5 points last season. Main Street in Cooperstown features the top smiles-per-mile rate in the baseball world.
