The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Navy, 88-51, on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Senior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) recorded a game-high in points with 22. Sophomore guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) had a strong game for Providence and almost recorded a triple double as he notched 12 points, seven rebounds and a career-high 14 assists. The Friars dominated the first half and ran out to a 40-20 lead after the first 20 minutes of action. Henton led all scorers with 10 points. He was followed by sophomore forward Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) who scored nine of his 11 points in the first half. The Friars shot an impressive 14-of-25 (.560) from the field, which included four 3-pointers. Providence did not slow down in the second half, as the team outscored the Midshipmen, 48-31, in the final period. After going 0-9 from three point territory in the team's previous game versus Binghamton, the Friars finished hot from behind the arc, connecting on 11 of 21 shots for a season best 52.4 percent. Henton was 3-4 from three-point territory and freshman Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.) shot 2-3 from long distance and scored 18 points in the contest. Providence shot 55.4 percent (31-56) for the game. James Hemphill led Navy with 10 points. Providence will return to action with a pair of games against ACC foes Florida State and Notre Dame at Mohegan Sun in the Hall of Fame Tip Off in Uncasville, Conn., over the weekend. The Friars will face Florida State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN3 and Notre Dame on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ESPN2.
