Award-winning digital media outlet 990WBOB is bringing back its popular and fruitful charity drive: F-Bomb Friday. The Rhode Island-based digital media outlet will break out the swear jar in an effort to help fight cancer.
On Friday, July 30th, 990WBOB will take to the digital airwaves, tossing a giant "F-U to the FCC" when they host the fifth installment of F-Bomb Friday: Cursing for a Cause! “F BOMB is a staple of what we’re about at 990WBOB” says Station Manager Michael Sandoval “Having fun while supporting causes we are passionate about. Giving back to our community while staying true to our core values.” This year radio veteran Joe Ferro heads up the efforts, "I let enough swear words slip all the time, when I'm actually encouraged to use them and for a good cause, it's just a fun time for everyone." The event, which runs from 8 pm to 11 pm (EST), will feature celebrity cameos and listener call-ins aimed at saying the F-word as often as possible, and for good reason -- every F-Bomb equals a two dollar donation to the JoAnne Sullivan Memorial Fund. Listeners are encouraged to call in with their own profanity-laden rants after making a small donation. There will be listener giveaways and fun surprises throughout the evening. Listeners can call in during the online, coast-to-coast live broadcast through (401) 626-4665 Information The JoAnne M. Sullivan Memorial Fund was founded in 2008 by Walter, Patrick and Meaghan Sullivan, in memory and honor of JoAnne, who had recently passed away from a long, but inspiring, battle with cancer. In 10 years, we have donated over $475,000, and with the support of the Jimmy Fund Golf and Dana Faber, we will continue to do so! All of the money raised is donated directly to Dana Faber's HER-2 NEU RESEARCH FUND, and already through this fund, doctors and researchers have found a certain combination of chemotherapy agents, that when applied in treatment, is associated with a low risk of cancer recurrence and decreased side effects. F-Bomb Friday is back for the fourth straight year when your favorite 990WBOB personalities and listeners can exchange the four letter word on the most fascinating topics including politics, sports, music, or flim-flam - and it's all for a fantastic cause. Join WBOB's team on Friday, May 4th at Buttonwoods Brewery at 530 Wellington Ave in Cranston, Rhode Island, to frequently fling the fowl word that you just can’t stop saying. 990WBOB will take to the digital airwaves, tossing a giant "F-U to the FCC" when they host the fourth annual F-Bomb Friday: Cursing for a Cause! Each year, WBOB seeks to raise $990 for charity with the event. After raising over one-thousand dollars last year, WBOB's goal is set to match that in 2018. In past years, the event has featured guests including celebrities, sports heroes, and importantly, American veteran heroes. This year, WBOB invites listeners to participate in the fun event. “It’s juvenile, it’s fun, and it’s for a good cause,” says 990WBOB CEO Adam Palazio, who makes it his goal to raise as much money as possible for a cause close to the team. After a recent unfortunate diagnosis of long-time 990WBOB host, David Clyde, with pancreatic cancer, the media outlet felt that teaming up with Dana Farber to raise money for cancer research was the obvious choice for 2018's event. Each f-bomb obligates the "offender" to a two-dollar donation to a "swear jar" for charity. Join the WBOB crew at Buttonwoods Brewery, or listen live to the festivities on 990WBOB.com. DONATE HERE (https://www.youcaring.com/danafarber-1168900) and join WBOB on the airwaves to help support cancer research. -xxx- About 990WBOBFounded by a group of talented and peculiar individuals, 990WBOB is a digital media and radio outlet based in Providence, Rhode Island, founded in 2007. Providence, R.I. - Award-winning digital media outlet 990WBOB (www.990wbob.com) is bringing back its popular and fruitful charity drive: F-Bomb Friday. The Rhode Island-based digital media outlet will break out the swear jar for the third year in an effort to bridge the gap between veterans and civilians to build a community of support.
On Friday, May 26th, 990WBOB will take to the digital airwaves, tossing a giant "F-U to the FCC" when they host the third annual F-Bomb Friday: Cursing for a Cause! In both 2015 and 2016, 990WBOB was able to reach its goal of $990 in donations in less than three hours. The event, hosted by several BOBCast(TM) personalities, featured guests including celebrities, sports heroes, and most importantly, American veteran heroes. CLICK HERE TO DONATE! "Perhaps swearing is crude and even rude but when you do it for a cause especially for veterans it's fun and even rewarding" said WBOB Director Adam Palazio. "Although the premise is far from traditional our intentions are pure, we want to help support those who gave it all to protect us." The event, which runs from 8 pm to 11 pm (EST), will feature celebrity cameos and listener call-ins aimed at saying the F-word as often as possible, and for good reason -- every F-Bomb equals a two dollar donation to the veteran's charity, Devil Dog USA Inc, which seeks to help veterans in need who have returned from active duty whom may need assistance such as housing. About Devil Dog USA Inc. Devil Dog USA Inc. understands that the word Devil Dog can be an intimidating term. As the founders of Devil Dog USA Inc. we would like to take the time to explain our moniker. The roots of the word Devil Dog originated in Belleau Wood (1918), when the Germans referred to the United States Marine Forces as “Teufel Hunden”. The Marines proudly took up this moniker as they gallantly defended their nation against all enemies foreign or domestic. As a term of endearment the Marine Corps used the English bulldog to symbolize the term. The English bulldog is strong, courageous, dignified, loyal and aggressive when provoked. Likewise, Veterans share these similar characteristics in and out of active duty service. Despite the bulldog’ s strong and muscular appearance, they can suffer from many health issues that lower their life expectancy to approximately 6.5 years. Regardless, in the right home, proper exercise, and love make the bulldog a resilient creature that can live to 11 years of age. At the end of active service many Veterans find themselves alone in a community that does not understand them. Many Veterans are unaware or do not apply to the benefits that are afforded to them or there is a lack of benefits. This in turn can lead to homelessness; decline in health, and eventually to a lonely death. Veterans, like the bulldog, when provided with adequate housing, the opportunity to be physically active through adaptive sports, given the opportunity to serve again through community service, and attainment of benefits only builds on a Veteran’s resiliency. Once this is established a Veteran can focus on employment, higher education, and rejoin their community with pride and purpose. DD USA Inc. pledges to fight for Veteran’s rights, just like the Marines did at Belleau Woods. Whether it is federal, state, city or county DD USA Inc. will stand tall and not rest until every Veteran is housed, properly clothed, employed, educated and receiving their hard earned benefits. This is why we happily accept the term Devil Dog as our moniker. Creating opportunities for our veterans “We’ve chosen Devil Dog USA Inc. because we recognize their hard work and efforts and we’d like to support such a terrific organization involving America's real heroes,” said 990WBOB personality David Clyde. “The purpose is to celebrate veterans and help this great cause and their works." Listeners are encouraged to call in with their own profanity-laden rants after making a small donation. There will be listener giveaways and fun surprises throughout the evening. Listeners can call in during the online, coast-to-coast live broadcast through (401) 626-4665.
