The first date is your one and only shot to make a lasting impression. Your opportunity to show your good intentions and show some serious class. Where you take your date is just as important as what you wear. Yet with all the fine dining options in Providence, how can one be certain to choose the right place?
Never fear 990WBOB has you covered. We've been there, tried that, and brought home the doggie bag. George Goner "A man thinks strange things when he's out of his mind..." Sitting here at my desk, watching the minute hand of the institutional-style clock on the wall move its slow way off the 12 that makes the hour 4 am, I consider my possible actions, if any, between now and when they let me leave at daybreak. The voices are louder, more insistent, each time I make my security rounds of the building. I am not safe here. Evan Mckay
The official Guardians of the Galaxy trailer came out this week. It is definitely a little strange but I like it! Starring Bautista, a green lady, tree-beard and the above mentioned Cooper. A few people think this movie might be stupid...I think they are stupid. Dan Martin Welcome back to another Comic's Corner update. Comedy on Us Vol. 22. This week our show turns Forty! It is our 40th episode ever! With Dan's new rehearsal schedule and Kenny hitting the road for the past two weeks, anything can and will happen in the studio. Even Producer (and BOB of the month) Ryan Fox joins in on the chaos these days. A lot has happened in comedy this past week and we will be celebrating our birthday with lots of laughs. Drop in below and tune on in... Alicia@990wbob.com Last week, Facebook announced that it would be adding 48 new gender options to customize your personal FB page. But what exactly does that mean? For those of us who have gone through life only knowing “Male” and “Female”, randomly finding out that there are other gender options can be a bit overwhelming and cause many questions to arise, and that is perfectly okay—they did for me too! During the training for my internship, questions like “What are your preferred pronouns?” were asked and words like “cisgendered” were used, and I can only imagine what my facial expressions looked like… Dan MacKnight When I found out that White Denim was playing a two-night stand at The Sinclair (Feb. 25 and 26), I looked up who would be opening for them each night. The Districts, a quartet from Lititz, PA are supporting White Denim on their east coast dates. After hearing their 2012 debut full-length, Telephone, they have become one of my favorite bands at the moment. I haven’t been able to stop listening to them for the past two weeks. Telephone is a masterpiece that they released independently while they were still in high school. Since then, they have been picking up tons of steam, playing shows with fellow Pennsylvania natives like Dr. Dog and Toy Soldiers. In November, the band announced that they have signed with Fat Possum Records, the former label of the Black Keys, and they would be releasing a 5-song EP in late January, just in time for their tour with White Denim. The Districts teamed up with producer Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man, Toy Soldiers) for the new EP. It features reworked versions of three tracks off of Telephone (“Lyla,” Long Distance,” and “Funeral Beds”), along with two brand new songs, which will appear on their next full-length album this fall. The Walking Dead has returned with a bang to AMC with Season Four Part Two. I have been waiting with baited breathe for this ever since the mid-season finale, which saw the demise of the Governor and Hershel, among others. Also the destruction of the prison saw the disbanding of the Rick Grimes crew. So, what happens next? How can AMC and The Walking Dead writers top what has already transpired and proven to be an explosive season. Thus far two episodes have premiered entitled "After" and "Inmates" and they have picked up right where they left off. Evan Mckay
Back last summer, I got bamboozled into buying "Might and Magic X Legacy." I say bamboozled because little did I know that it was in "early access" at that time which meant "shell of a game". I have talked about this before and I think that "early access" is complete bullshit. Just release a finished project! That being said.... The "full release" was just made available a couple of weeks ago, and I finally sat down to play this latest installment of the most classic, weird, fantasy RPG. I admit it. It is addicting!!! Rob Duguay There is a beautifully awesome thing happening within the cockles and the depths of the Providence music scene. The emergence of highly amplified punk & garage rock has been making a righteous re-introduction into the sounds of The Creative Capital and as a fan who has been seeing the scene evolve for nearly a decade I welcome it with open arms. When it comes to this explosive takeover, you have to start with frenzied upstarts Gymshorts. Still a fairly new act in Providence but they’ve been gaining serious traction over the past few months, Gymshorts recently put out their debut album No Backsies! and it’s one of the best raw & real rock & roll albums you’ll ever hear. You think punk is dead? Listen to what Gymshorts have to offer and I’m sure you’ll change your mind. Dan Martin
