The International Olympic Committee is threatening to remove wrestling, among another eight events, from the 2020 game schedule. Say what you will about what the Olympics have become, but to lose wrestling is to lose a sport that has been integral to the Olympic dynamic since Jesus wore sandals. I believe that the IOC has NO intentions of removing wrestling from their program, and the info leak has the trappings of a publicity stunt. Given that we’re entering an Olympic lull between summer and winter games, it’s in their best interests to maintain popularity in the public eye, until… The Chicago Blackhawks were expected to be a threat to make it to the the NHL finals, but at 12-0-3 how long can they keep this up? In an edge of your seat victory over the Los Angeles Kings you have to think some team is gonna figure the Blackhawks out eventually, but my question is when? Well lets break there schedule down. They are in the middle of seven game home stretch, the next team coming in is Vancouver on the 19th which should be another great game, but I feel they will lose the next game to San Jose. I know the Sharks are in a slump and they are playing in Chicago but with two tough matchups back to back and all slumps do end eventually and it will here. The western conference All-stars out shined the east for the 4th time in five years as the west beat the east 143-138. Chris Paul received MVP honors as he has 20 points and 15 assists. CP3 became just the third player in all-star history to record 20 points and drop 15 dimes, joining hall of fame point guards Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas. Chris Paul is the first Clipper to ever win the all-star game MVP. He and Clipper team mate Blake Griffin definitely put on a show in Houston which definitely caused problems for the eastern conference all-stars. Kevin Durant led all players with 30 points, and Carmelo Anthony had 26 to lead the east in defeat. The final minutes off the game became pretty tight. Kobe Bryant had two notable blocked shots on LeBron James in the closing moments to help the west clinch the victory. On Michael Jordan's 50th birthday, Kobe showed LeBron that the old man still has some tricks up his purple and yellow sleeves. This Sunday is a day in sports that is sure to make millions of sports fans feel their age. Sure, some fans may tune into TNT's broadcast of the NBA all-star game and feel that way watching LeBron James, Blake Griffin and other top NBA stars taking flight in Houston. However, the original king of flight, the true sports icon of a generation, the great Michael Jordan turns fifty years young on Sunday. This has sports fans across the globe saying, "Damn I'm getting old." Is the greatest sports icon of my youth and possibly ever getting old, turning fifty? How is this even possible? This proves that even living legend can't fight father time. Oh the weather outside has been very frightful most recently. Between 'Nemo' dumping 2+ feet of snow, 2 nights of fog, and then reports of more snow on the way, some might even call into question the legitimacy of playing next year's Super Bowl in the outdoor MetLife Stadium. Now we may potentially be looking at the very first Super Bowl to be snowed on and while people (*ahem* Joe Flacco *ahem*) are going to be griping about that, let's not forgot that snow and football have a very interesting relationship. Let's look at some of the more memorable snow football games in the NFL's 123 years of existence. The Boston Celtics their seventh straight game in classic Celtic heart wrenching style in a triple overtime thriller against the Denver Nuggets. The captain and the truth Paul Pierce led the charge for Boston with a triple double, scoring 27 points while recording 14 assists and 14 rebounds. Coach George Karl and Denver Nuggets were one of the hottest teams in the league going into Sundays triple overtime classic, as they were riding high with their own nine game winning streak. Boston needed some clutch shots to survive the Nuggets and preserve their own winning streak. Jeff Green hit a corner three point shot to tie the game at 99 in regulation, and Paul Pierce had a clutch three to tie the game at 107 which sent the Celtics to the third and deciding overtime. This off-season has the potential to be one of the biggest free agency/trade heavy off season in quite some time. Where will Mike Vick end up? Will Flacco re-sign? Who else will the Giants cut? Do the Patriots spend on a big time receiver? I will do my best to help ease your mind division by division. Let's start with the AFC West, Why? Because it is the weakest division with the most need for improvement. So, lets get to work. |
