Rhode Island governor Gina Raimondo took a bold and appropriate step on Friday, announcing plans by the state to pull over drivers with a New York license plate and forcing individuals from the state to self-quarantine for 14 days. New York governor Andrew Cuomo came on strong, attacking Raimondo and threatening to sue Rhode Island. “I don’t believe it was legal, I don’t believe it was neighborly,” said Cuomo in his daily briefing. Raimondo appeared to back down, not putting up a fight with her bigger counterpart and giving in to peer pressure. Allan Giberti
As most of us know, Rhode Island is expected to lose one of its two Congressional seats and there are many reasons, but in a nutshell it’s due to our dwindling, or at the very least stagnant population growth due to decades of prosperity killing Democrat legislation. However, if you need a more in depth explanation check out The Tale of Two Congressman – It Could be the Worst of Times, but the bottom line is that legal residents of Rhode Island have been fleeing to states with better jobs and lower taxes. But wait, if people are fleeing Rhode Island then how can the population growth be stagnant? To find the answer one only has to look at the US Census, the citizenship question and why the Democrats are so opposed to it. Mark Colley
Across the world, actions have come in stages; first, a travel ban for incoming flights from Europe, then the partial closure of the Canada-US border. First, a recommendation against gatherings of more than 50 people, then a recommendation from the president against gatherings of more than 10 and a ban against more than two in Germany. It is clear that the COVID-19 pandemic is getting worse by the day, with the worst-case scenario becoming increasingly dire and depressing. States are slowly shutting businesses and telling residents to shelter in place, but the direction from the government is coming at too slow a pace, too late in the process. Allan Giberti
On January 31st President Trump, in response to what was then referred to as the Wuhan coronavirus, imposed a travel ban on China. The response was swift and predictable. The ban was decried as racist, dangerous and unnecessary. The Chinese Communist Party was quick to scream racism and the Communist propaganda machine went into overdrive and social justice warriors across the globe lapped it up. It was a rush to see who could virtue signal the hardest and Italy was one of the top contenders. A move that would prove deadly. Bob Giusti
