On Tuesday, Rhode Island Speaker of the House, Nicholas Mattiello, announced a new plan for a taxpayer funded PawSox stadium. The new idea is for the City of Pawtucket, through its redevelopment agency, to back-stop the bonds for a new PawSox stadium.
Mattiello’s proposal is similar to Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien’s “Plan B,” which was for Pawtucket to build a new stadium on its own, but with state tax revenues. At the time, Senate President Dominick Ruggerio did not view Grebien’s plan as “a viable alternative” because of the higher borrowing costs. Earlier in the fall, Speaker Mattiello expressed his concern to the Providence Journal.
New England is largely a sellers' market, with few exceptions, according to RE/MAX INTEGRA New England's 2018 Spring Market Trends Report. Locally, Rhode Island boasts the lowest average days on market in the region at 64 days.
Low inventory coupled with strong economic factors has led to intense competition, driving up prices and pushing buyers to expand their horizons and think outside of the box.

Early in the week, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and Pawtucket Red Sox began a 4-game series. The RailRiders were looking to get their first victory of the season at McCoy while the PawSox were looking to continue their winning ways at home this week. RHP Chandler Shepherd (2-3, 4.21) took to the mound for Pawtucket, looking to continue the winning streak over the RailerRiders going. He faced off against RailRiders pitcher and the #3 New York Yankees farm prospect LHP Justus Sheffield (0-1, 2.16). Earlier in the week, the PawSox took Games 1 and 2 of the series on the scores of 5-4 and 7-6 respectively. Both games featured the team coming back from large deficits. However on Wednesday night, in front of 5,260 fans, the Evil Empire struck back.
Republican candidate for Governor Giovanni Feroce released a statement this week in which he did not mince words about his distaste for current Governor Gina Raimondo's approach to business development in Rhode Island.
In his statement, Feroce accuses Raimondo of creating an environment where only business entities that engage with the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation will receive any support from the state - thus allowing her to take credit for job creation. Feroce, the former CEO of Alex and Ani claims that the Governor's strategy is harmful, and needs to stop. |
