Rain or shine, nothing was going to keep the Pawtucket Red Sox from facing off against the Rochester Red Wings their series opener. Taking the mound for the Pawtucket Red Sox was Chandler Shepherd (0-1, 6.75 in 3 starts), looking for his first win of the 2018 season against the visiting Rochester Red Wings. Unfortunately the Red Wings made Shepherd wait at least another turn in the rotation for his first win of the season.

In football, everything starts with the quarterback. Time and time again, weak teams that are led by strong quarterbacks are able to sneak their way into the NFL’s playoffs, while skilled teams without a good passer find their dreams shattered regularly. Here in New England, the Patriot’s haven’t needed to worry about who would lead them to the promise land. But that quarterback, that living legend won’t be able to do it forever. He’s 41. Even though he wants to play into his late sixties, the realistic possibility of him playing for more than another couple of years is doubtful. So once again, it was time to start looking for a successor.
Ryan L. Fox - The month of April is almost to an end. Those showers (both rain and especially snow) are now behind us as we to turn into the month of May. With that, the Pawtucket Red Sox's first month of the 2018 International League season is behind them as well. How did they do in their last full week of April? In four simple word, 'they closed out strong'.
Earlier this week, Rhode Island State Representative Patricia Morgan, (R-West Warwick), held a press conference to call out the state's Attorney General, Peter Kilmartin, for not providing her with the number of criminals prohibited from purchasing firearms due to their name being entered into national databases .
Morgan, fearing that Kilmartin is seeking to "take guns away from law-abiding gun owners," seemingly questioned whether Kilmartin is utilizing current law to prevent gun violence, and even posited whether the AG had reported any criminals to federal authorities through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The Attorney General did not mince words in response to Morgan's claims, calling them "foolish," "reckless" and asserting that she "fails to grasp very basic principles of how the various law enforcement databases interface and the role law enforcement agencies play in entering information into those databases." Tuesday night, the Board of Elections ordered Rhode Island House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello to repay $72,067.80 -- the amount spent by his PAC illegally during his re-election campaign in 2016. The Board also revealed involvement of Mattiello’s campaign aides with the Shawna Lawton mailer and their refusal to comply with subpoenas.
“Illegal conduct marred Speaker Mattiello’s 2016 re-election campaign," said RI Republican Party Chairman Brandon Bell. "Last night, it was shown that his campaign aides illegally coordinated over the Shawna Lawton endorsement mailer. His PAC illegally spent over $72,000 to help to help him get re-elected by 85 mail ballots. This cannot be explained away as a series of honest errors. Mattiello would not be in office today but for this illegal activity. When an elected official breaks the law in order to get re-elected, he needs to leave office.” |
