The year 2014 has been for me, my family and friends, and my political peers The Year of Greater Glory. From the doubled victories of Psalm 114 (every Psalm corresponds to a specific year, starting from Psalm 1 for the year 1901 etc.), to the expanded opportunities for me and for the people I care about, there is indeed much for me to be thankful for. Protesters Tuesday evening in Providence blocked both lanes of I-95 near the Providence Public Safety Complex in protest of a Grand Jury decision to not indict the Ferguson, Missouri police officer who shot and killed teenager Michael Brown.
The 18 newly elected members of the Rhode Island General Assembly – an incoming class that includes 15 in the House of Representatives and 3 in the Senate – will participate in an all-day orientation session on Tuesday, December 2, at the State House.
President of the Senate M. Teresa Paiva Weed and Senate Majority Leader Dominick J. Ruggerio wrote to the Public Utilities Commission today to ask that they moderate the electricity rate increase requested by National Grid.
“Energy, like food and housing, is an indispensible necessity of life,” they wrote. “It must be our collective goal to ensure that energy costs are affordable to all Rhode Islanders, both residents and businesses alike. We believe it is possible to moderate this rate proposal, and we request that you take the necessary steps to do so.” Rep. Anastasia P. Williams applauded the sweeping immigration changes contained within President Barack Obama’s recent executive order, pointing out that the new policies will assist immigrants from all nations. “The Latino population is the largest and fastest-growing in Rhode Island and the nation, but the president’s executive order addresses the needs of all immigrants,” said Representative Williams (D-Dist. 9, Providence). “Rhode Island is a melting pot of people from not only Latino nations, but from Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa and elsewhere. His actions will protect immigrants from all nations.” |
