Lewis Valenti, 41, a West Kingston, R.I., businessman with residences in Reading, Mass., and East Greenwich, R.I., made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Providence today on a criminal complaint charging him with conspiracy to transport a minor interstate for prostitution and transporting a minor interstate for prostitution.
U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. Almond ordered Valenti released on $50,000 unsecured bond to home confinement at his Massachusetts residence, with electronic monitoring. Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up four cents this week, according to AAA Northeast. AAA’s May 31st survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.33 per gallon, four cents higher than last week. Rhode Island’s price is one cent higher than the national average. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 36 cents higher at $2.69.

Rhode Island’s price is one cent higher than the national average. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 40 cents higher at $2.69. AAA projects more than 38 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. That is the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record and the most since 2005. Spurred by the lowest gas prices in more than a decade, about 700,000 more people will travel compared to last year. The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 26 to Monday, May 30.
