At daybreak on Thursday, my wallet was feeling a little lighter than I thought it would at this point in my little experiment. With the weekend approaching, and with just over thirty dollars left to spend, today is the day to cut back. However, I vowed to lead an active lifestyle this week, spending as much time as possible out and about the bustling city of Providence. The key for today is to get my budget back on track, and ensure that I have enough scratch to make it through the weekend.

Cleavage \ˈklē-vij\: The depression between a woman's breasts especially when made visible by a low-cut neckline. Started in 2002, National Cleavage Day is an annual celebration held on March 30, created by the brassiere marketer Wonderbra. The holiday is celebrated in the UK, South Africa, and the US. Wonderbra claims that National Cleavage Day was initiated as an attempt to solemnize women's independence and power in the modern world. Wonderbra PR claims "It gives women a chance to be beautiful and glow in the furtive, yet appreciative, glances their cleavage evokes from men". They also explained "It gives men a legitimate reason to stare at boobs." -Harry Dunne
Gasoline is $3.95 Per Gallon! Comedian James Creelman would remark that at its root, the price of gas is justified... it allows you to travel vast distances at a per-gallon rate much lower than that of apple cider. That is quite true, but it is still an obnoxious budget killer. I say this, because Wednesday, I needed to fuel up. My budget of sixty dollars is dwindling, and the rising gas prices are not helping my cause. I only added $10.00, which was good for approximately 2.4 gallons. So essentially, I can drive nearly 63 miles without refilling.
I have been running over my limit each day, so now, with four days to go, my adjusted budget is $7.60 per day -Kevin Aherne
Could you Thrive for Seven Days on 60 Dollars?
As much as I love waking up and getting my morning coffee from a local brew house, it’s not a realistic or prudent way to spend the remainder of my meager resources. Although its less than three dollars, that small expense accounts for nearly 40% of my daily budget. So cutting it out is a logical and necessary choice. 48 hours into my self-induced poverty expedition, I am starting to feel the pinch. It’s not as if I normally live a posh or lavish lifestyle, but getting by on less than nine US Dollars a day is not a simple task. Despite the hardship, I continue to find (and receive great suggestions for) numerous great events in and around Providence that are frugally fun.

Monday marked day one of my experiment to spend seven days living an entertaining and active lifestyle while maintaining a budget of sixty American Dollars. If I am to succeed, I will need to spend less than an average of $8.57 per day. I went to the ATM and withdrew 3 Andrew Jackson's, marking the start to my quest. I must disclose that I will have some level of reliance on existing resources. For instance, I am starting with a little more than a quarter tank of gas. I also have a few (very few) rations in my cupboard. (Basically: Bread, Peanut Butter, Chicken, a few frozen pizzas, and noodles). Any expenses beyond that will come directly out of my thin stack of twenties. Let's Review the Dollar by Dollar Breakdown for day #1:
So, I was a little over budget today, but it was a great start to the week. I look forward to finding more fun things to do on this limited budget. Check in to see how I am doing tomorrow.
