After allegations surfaced that he had misled a group of Warren Town Council candidates about campaign expenditures, Representative-elect Laufton Ascencao vacated his would-be house seat prior to be sworn in. On March 5th, a special election will be held for the vacated HD-68 seat, pitting Democrat June Speakman, independent Ken Marshall, Libertarian William Hunt and independent James R. McCanna III against each other. Identical questionnaires were delivered to each of the four candidates, the answers to which will be published on 990wbob.com to help voters within the district choose the candidate that will be the best representation of the area. Flashback to 2016, the night of the College Football Playoff semifinals. Jalen Hurts and Kelly Bryant are the marque match-up as these two quarterbacks go under center for Alabama and Clemson, Part 3. Hurts and the Tide won that night easily 24-6, and the very next game Tua Tagavoila replaced Jalen Hurts at halftime of the National Championship. The world as we knew it in college football will never be the same. Maybe that wasn’t the exact moment when then the NCAA transfer portal became necessary, but it was certainly the moment we all became aware of the possibilities. Neronha today announced a proposed bill that would reclassify simple drug possession for personal use as a misdemeanor, bringing Rhode Island’s statute in line with at least 20 other states.
Currently, simple possession for personal use—of 1 ounce or less of a controlled substance other than marijuana—is a felony under Rhode Island law, punishable by up to 3 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Marijuana possession of similar amounts is a civil violation.  Allan Giberti
When President Trump first mentioned the creation of a new branch of the military, the Space Force, in March of last year, many quickly labeled it ridiculous. Obviously, they were unaware of the existence of the Air Force Space Command which already oversees much of the country's defense assets in space. Last Tuesday, President Trump signed a directive requiring the secretary of defense to establish a separate branch within the United States military, the Space Force. We need a new separate branch of the military for space to combat the rising security threats in space. If you take only consider how we engage military campaigns, you realize we are extremely dependent on space. |
