It’s shiny, new and killing Rhode Island business: That is, of course, the new Encore casino in Boston. Opened on June 23, the casino has had no trouble driving business and making money, to the tune of $16 million in its first week. By the end of its first month, Encore had already made $48.6 million, and the state of Massachusetts expects as much as $300 million in new taxes from the property when this fiscal year ends. And then there’s Twin River here in the Ocean State. Ryan L. Fox
It was deemed the first challenge in the New England Patriots 2019 season. In Week 4, they traveled up to Orchard Park, New York to face off against their AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills in the ‘Battle of the Undefeateds.’ With each team coming into the game at 3-0, it was clear that some eyes would be paying attention. Unlike the first 3 weeks of the season, this was an ultimate slugfest for the New England Patriots. It was dirty, it was ugly, and the offense looked reprehensible. It came down to defense and special teams as each side boasted a formidable squad in both areas. But in the end, only one team could go undefeated. Bob Guisti
There is nothing new about downsizing your life as you get older. In the course of a lifetime, many of us were fortunate enough to stay within a geographic area that allowed us to hang on to a ton of useless stuff that for one reason or another we packed up and carried with us. Or in some cases boxes left untouched in your parent’s basement or attic are beckoning your attention when the family home is finally sold. I am no exception. In the past three years I have moved three times, so the experience of having to go through my archives reminded me that it was time to purge what I barely remember I’d kept let alone had use for. I needed to make space. Allan Giberti
Most people know I’m a huge supporter of the 2nd Amendment, heck I try to make it a point to talk about it every show. I’m also the current President of the Rhode Island chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans, so I’m also an advocate for LGBT rights and equality. Right now on G:R NEWS!
