Today marks the last day that I, or anyone else, will drive to work with their favorite music station playing. Today marks, at its 50th year, the last day that 95.5 WBRU will ever broadcast over terrestrial radio waves. Tomorrow when we wake up, this radio station will simply not exist as we've come to know it. The loss of WBRU is one felt deep for the people of Rhode Island. My father heard about the murder of John Lennon while doing what he did every day: listening to WBRU as he worked hard, screen printing t-shirts for the Strand and Club Babyhead. The same story goes for Kurt Cobain's suicide, and many other important historical events. As a teen, we'd drive and listen, as the songs that were broadcast better described my thoughts than I.

Football season is here. Finally. It has been 8 months since Clemson and Alabama gave us possibly the best championship game in NCAA history, and now it’s time to turn the page to the 2017 season. 130 teams in the FBS will suit up this week with hopes of making the college football playoffs. While previewing them all would be too much literature to consume, I’ve broken down what you really need to know, in these top 5 lists of teams, players and even hot-seated coaches. Whether you shout Roll Tide, Go Irish, OH-IO or do the Seminole Tomahawk, we can all agree, that it’s great to have football back.

Maxim is hosting its first-ever Maxim's Finest" model contest, in which one lucky beauty will win a $25,000 modeling contract and be featured in a two-page Maxim magazine spread. Contestants have been chosen from all across the country. Despite being the smallest state, Rhode Island has a contestant through qualifiers that is going on to compete at the discretion of a public vote. Lindsay Raposa, 26, of Cranston, is looking to become the first Maxim’s Finest winner. Contestants have been chosen from all across the country. This past Sunday marked the finale home game of the 2017 for the Pawtucket Red Sox. It also marked a special occasion in the franchise’s history. Earlier in the year, the PawSox inducted former player Mo Vaughn and former manager Joe Morgan into their team Hall of Fame. Then on Sunday, August 27, the team inducted former MLB catcher and MLB Hall of Famer Carlton “Pudge” Fisk as the third member of its 2017 Hall of Fame class.
As the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Harvey continue to unfold across the Greater Houston area, United Way of Greater Houston is making a national appeal for support because of the massive recovery effort that will be needed.
One hundred percent (100%) of every contribution to United Way of Greater Houston Relief Fund will be used to help individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Harvey with both immediate, basic needs such as food, shelter and medicine, as well as the long-term recovery services that come later such as case management, minor home repair and other essentials needed to begin the recovery process. |
