By Kevin Aherne WARREN, R.I. (AP) — A man leaving a children’s pony show got himself into hot water afterward by stopping at a liquor store and bringing his Shetland pony inside. My Father was a veteran of World War II and stormed the beaches at the D-Day invasion. I remember seeing all the scars he had on his body, all form the War. He had a small scar near the left side of his eye caused by a blast of the shrapnel. He suffered from headaches that hurt so bad he would lower the lights and just sit in the living room, looking. And when it rained, his bones would ache. He said it was sleeping in the fox holes for all those years in WWII- Germany-Italy-Africa- so on and so on. He never complained once. He was a man. He worked hard. And he loved his family. Dad was a great man with more integrity than anyone I have ever met. I look at all these wounded vets returning today, burns to amputations to non visible wounds like PTSD. These vets take the cards dealt, strap on their boots and carry on. Their integrity reminds me of my dad. Real men and women who love their family, God, and country; doing the best they can. This is the best America has and I am proud to be an American because of people like those in our military. Memorial Day is your day- you deserves this day so be proud. Puff out your chest and take no crap from anyone . I am appreciative of all you do and endure. God Bless you and your families. May God Bless and protect our Military WildSide Prof. Clyde "Look what I made!" Billy held up his creation with five-year-old pride. His mother stopped washing the dishes to look properly impressed. "Ooh, what's that?" "It's an eye creature." Indeed, every hole in the plastic Mr. Potato Head potato held an eye. Big eyes, small eyes. All of them round, with blue pupils. "Wow!" His mother admired it. "Now go play in the living room. Momma's busy." Billy marched off. He came back. "Momma?" "I told you, momma's busy. What's the matter?" |
