The Department of Labor and Training announced Thursday new maximum weekly benefit amounts for the two biggest income support programs it runs for Rhode Island workers and employers – Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI).
Beginning July 1, 2018, the maximum weekly benefit rate for Unemployment Insurance will increase to $576 per beneficiary and $720 for beneficiaries with a maximum five dependents. This is the first increase to the UI maximum weekly benefit rate in seven years.

The Boston Celtics entered the 2018 NBA Draft with no lottery picks, but a desperate need for size in the frontcourt. After two seasons of selecting early in the NBA Draft due to trades, the team in green had the goal of supplementing their team with a player that could contribute off of the bench. With the twenty-seventh pick, the latest first pick for the team since 2010, they were not going to grab a young superstar, like Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown, but instead had the opportunity to snag a low-ceiling player who could contribute right away in a role off of the bench, and help the team contend for a championship in the 2018-19 season.

Welcome PawSox fans of all ages to WBOB’s PawSox Notebook. The last time the Pawtucket Red Sox were at the .500 mark was back on May 11 when they beat the Syracuse Chiefs 12-2 to go 16-16 (.500) at the time. Since then, they have spent nearly 2 months floating below it. But after this week, it seems that their fortunes have turned around and the team has climbed within a hair of that .500 mark that’s been eluding them this season.

After spending the past few days on winning track, the Pawtucket Red Sox were looking to continue going into the weekend against the visiting Syracuse Chiefs. Already the PawSox took the first game of the series between the two teams on Friday night, 5-4, and were ready to go for the second win of the series. Taking the mound for the PawSox was RHP Chandler Shepherd (4-4, 3.36) while the Chiefs countered with LHP Tommy Milone (3-4, 4.99) for the Saturday night match up. |
