AS GENERAL ELECTION SEASON continues to take shape in Rhode Island, this week finds the candidates from the two major political parties releasing plans for school security, dropping a new round of negative television ads, and dealing with the fallout from - or momentum obtained by - the most recent WPRI/RWU poll (which showed Democratic Governor Gina Raimondo with an expanded lead over opponent, Republican Cranston Mayor Allan Fung). These pieces, like the yearslong back and forth between the two candidates, who first faced off against each other in the 2014 Rhode Island gubernatorial election, will set much of the background when they square off in the first gubernatorial debate, this Thursday September 27th. The debate is presented by WPRI and will be held at Roger Williams University in Bristol.

This weekend I travelled to Madison, Wisconsin. While there, I spoke with a local Cranstonian, Maia Caito, a former Cranston East student and All-State basketball player. She is currently on the University of Wisconsin Women’s basketball team. I caught up with the 6’4 freshman center in Madison to see how she was transitioning to college, and what it is like to be a college basketball player.

Well here we are again. Master versus the apprentice. From 2004 to 2017, current Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia worked for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick in different coaching roles with the team (most notably as defensive coordinator from 2012-2017). In the 2018 off-season, Matt accepted the role as head coach of the Detroit Lions and things have not gotten off smoothly as he may had hoped. This past Sunday night, he faced off against his former boss in a Week 3 matchup that many tuned in to see can the apprentice top the master. However unlike in Week 1 where Belichick schooled one former coordinator, it was Matt Patricia who was taking Bill to school.

If you ask 10 different people what their favorite horror movie is, you’re likely to get 10 different responses. Taste in movies, or in any type of artistic expression, is subjective. For every person that thinks The Shining is a masterpiece, there’s another person who thinks it’s a horribly overrated film filled with overacting from its star Jack Nicholson. For the record, I think it’s a classic, but you get my point. But as I said, the merits of what makes a classic horror film can be debated all day long. With that in mind, here are the five most overrated horror movies. In order to make the list, the movie cannot be a sequel and or remake. These five movies are considered, by some, to be some of the most memorable entries in the horror genre. But to me, they’re overrated movies that don’t live up to the hype.

With the Rhode Island General Election less than 50 days away, Governor Gina Raimondo and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung are set for a rematch of the 2014 race. Raimondo has experienced a lot in her four years in office, and Fung is running a campaign based on reforming several aspects of the government. However, there remains a constant from 2014- an outside candidate with a decent backing is expected to earn a good chunk of votes. Bob Healey, who identified as a Moderate, won 21.6 percent of the vote four years ago, and Independent Joe Trillo, a former state representative has a very good chance to do the same. |
