The players. The fans. The league. All three are essential to the summer spectacular that we call baseball. And all three are fed up with juicers. It’s no secret that I’m a proponent of allowing steroid users into the hall of fame. Those drug users used before there were rules that actually punished them for taking performance enhancing drugs. Now, both Major and Minor League baseball has implemented policies suspending steroid users. This hasn’t thwarted the efforts of every player who wants to gain an edge.

It wasn’t the start of the 2018 MLB season that Red Sox LHP Drew Pomeranz would have liked. After just one inning pitched in spring training, Pomeranz suffered an elbow injury. MRIs later confirmed that he had a left forearm flexor strain and he was placed on the 10-day disabled list. He began his major league rehab assignment today in Pawtucket, taking the mound for the Pawtucket Red Sox against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in the final game of the weekend series.

Neither cold nor snow would deny the start of the 2018 International League season for the Pawtucket Red Sox. A quick flurry of snow pushed their Opening Day start from Friday night to a Saturday midday matinee. Fans were treated to the opening day ceremonies as the 2018 PawSox team was introduced to the crowd. After the first pitch was thrown, the team took to the field to begin their 2018 MiLB season as they welcomed in their IL North Divisional Rivals, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

The University of Rhode Island Rams Men's Basketball team has tapped longtime Assistant, David Cox, to helm the program this week after Dan Hurley accepted a position 60 miles east, with the University of Connecticut. Hurley is credited with rebuilding the Rams and establishing Rhode Island as a top-caliber mid-major destination after a six year run featuring two NCAA tournament wins as well as an Atlantic 10 title, and his departure raised concerns among Rhody Nation as to who would carry the continue their forward momentum. There has been much speculation about who Thorr Bjorn would select as the next head coach for the Rams. Names such as Nate Oates (Buffalo) and John Becker (Vermont) emerged as possibilities. One media outlet even flat out invented a story that Rick Pitino was on the verge of inking a long-term contract. |
