With the school year coming to a close for some 55 million children across the country, it is important to remind drivers to be vigilant in the coming months. In preparation for the season, AAA Northeast is urging drivers to watch the road more carefully than usual to avoid collisions with children. One should expect more pedestrian and bike traffic especially in neighborhoods and residential areas as the days get longer and children begin to take advantage of not having school come morning.
AAA Northeast has several tips to help ensure that both commuters have a happy and safe summer:
It’s time for the PC Left to run for the hills because the Professor is coming. He is coming and he is bringing the heat. But if you think the Professor is fighting the fight alone, then you’re just as crazy as the PC Left.

Last week, many residents of Providence's Summit Neighborhood (Hope Street area) received a lengthy letter from a neighbor, concerned about an epidemic that is "wreaking havoc" on the idyllic east side community. Was the author concerned with the rash of home invasions? Nope. Was it the proposal to install parking meters in the Hope Street business district, threatening the viability of several small shops and restaurants that's got her goat? Not even close. So, what was she so fired up about that she wrote this long and eloquent letter (pictured below), paid postage, and distributed to hundreds of her neighbors? Inch Worms. Yes, those little green worms. I'm not quite sure of her motive (she describes herself as a realtor -- guerrilla marketing perhaps?), but regardless, many residents were befuddled that a neighbor would go to such great and dramatic lengths to rally community support. Read the ridiculous letter below!

As Latin beats filled Pulse night club in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday morning before the club goers were done dancing, Omar Mateen had more nefarious plans. He must have heard the people inside the "Gay Club," loving life, dancing, and living out loud. Moments before he entered the club and savagely massacred 49 people, injuring 53 more, he must have heard the music... and he didn’t care. The nation woke up to the news. A new record. The worst mass shooting in America, the worst terrorist attack since 9/11, had occurred while we slept, or while we partied in our cities own gay clubs. The gay community awoke to the news that we now hold the title for the worst act of violence toward humans since Sept. 11th 2001. As if the gay community didn’t have enough on its plate, with being a pawn in this year's election, to fighting for basic human rights, and protecting ourselves from the ignorance and hate of others. We now have to come to terms with the fact that we hold this disgusting title. With Rhode Island small businesses focusing on making this a great summer season, scam artists posing as representatives of National Grid are banking on business owners falling for the ruse that service will be shut off unless an immediate payment is made. And, the newest form of “payment” scammers are requesting are iTunes cards.
The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit has received an increased number of calls from small businesses in Rhode Island who have been targeted. At least one business owner fell for the scam and reportedly gave more than $2,000 of iTunes cards over the phone to scammers. |
