To know him was to love him. From his big bellied laugh to his big goofy smile. David Clyde was at times larger than life. He could light up the room just by joining any conversation. When I first met Clyde, I didn’t know what to make of him. His views were as wild as his expressions, and his discussions were wildly entertaining as he danced around from topic to topic. Eight years later, he’s gone, having lost a swift terminal fight with cancer. He left behind a myriad of fans and friends who tuned in every week to not only hear his take on current events but to listen to Dave brighten his listeners day with his off the wall comments on pop culture.

Welcome PawSox fans of all ages to WBOB’s PawSox Notebook. The Pawtucket Red Sox came out of the All-Star Break, taking 3 out of 4 games against the Syracuse Chiefs before heading down south past the Mason-Dixon Line for a 7-game road trip. A big win on Monday gave the PawSox their 4th victory in 5 games and things were looking up. However that was the only victory they got as they ended running into some big time troubles down south.

Co-Host, NEWBD Tap Takeover 990WBOB.com Let’s be honest…Summer is hot. There are a lot of things I want to do in the summertime, and going to a bunch of breweries is definitely on that list, but I am not a huge fan of standing in the sun for hours waiting for my beer. If you saw my general complexion, you would understand. So for this reason, I spend a lot of time at liquor stores, scouring the aisles for a great Summer Shelfer. I define a great Summer Shelfer as a beer that I can drink a bunch of and still be coherent enough to play a game of Cornhole or Beer Frisbee. I drink as many Double IPAs as the rest of us (let’s be honest, I drink way more than most of you…ahem…all of you), but in the Summer I definitely like to tone it down a bit and drink something a little lighter. Here is my list, in no particular order, of great Summer Shelfers that you should definitely be looking for in the Summer of 2018:

Rhode Island may be tiny, but it boasts hundreds of miles of trails. Whether you’re looking for a scenic walking path or an all-day strenuous trek, the Ocean State has something for all hiking skill levels. Geographically diverse, Rhode Island offers everything from waterfront walks to deep-woods excursions. We have it all. Well, except if you’re looking to hike a mountain, because we don’t have any of those. Regardless, Rhode Island’s numerous management areas, parks, and preserves offer residents countless hiking options. Here are five lesser-known hikes that you may not have tried, but should definitely check out. And don’t forget the bug spray.

While none of them heard their names called on draft night, former URI basketball stars Hassan Martin, Jared Terrell, and E.C Matthews were all invited to show off their talents at the NBA Summer League and make one final push for a roster spot. |
